    low budget hotel

I was in Debrecen for a Hungarian language course ( 2 weeks), therefore I wanted something close to the University. If you visit Debrecen as a tourist choose something nicer. The hotel is ok, very old, the rooms are quite clean, but not all the showers function well, the hallways are a bit spooky:-), the heating system is very good, the food is also good, but the restaurant area is not so clean, especially the table sheet covers which were quite dirty the wi-fi in the corner rooms has NO SIGNAL! The middle rooms are ok, the signal is good. The staff is also nice, if you speak Hungarian:-) The proximity to the University will offer you public transportation to the city centre/train station.

Disappointing hotel in a place that should not be like this ....

Poor cleaning, carpet with big spots everywhere, massive infestation with stink bugs, unclean terraces, the yard left in the dirt, dirty walls etc. I understand that there may be an infestation with those bugs in the whole area, but in the three days I stayed in Debrecen I met here and there a few bugs, but here was disaster. In the room I killed at least 15 pieces, there were other tens both live and dead in the hall, even in the little elevator we found some. In such a catastrophic infestation, I wonder how the public health department does not interfeer. It was one of the hotels that made me one of the biggest misfortunes because this hotel has an enormous potential as location and facilities but everywhere there is a lack of interest of management and employees. It is located great, has an optimal surface and a generous lot of land but a total lack of interest and good intentions. I will not detail that we have been charged more than we booked. The hotel itself has a very good position and potential of the hotel is great, the rooms are big enough, the bathrooms are also, but unfortunately the bad management is seen from all aspects of the hotel and this makes the stay to them very unpleasant. Where are you Anthony Melchiorri (Hotel Impossible) to see this :)! Lucky us that we had a lot of things to do in the area and we had to stay just at night at the hotel!

    1982 communism simulator

I've stayed at this hotel 3 times now over the years when visiting Debrecen, because simply put, It's cheap and it's in a great location! HOWEVER the hotel gets crappier and crappier every time I come, to the point this last occasion it simply became comically bad and not worth its price. I really have no clue what the hotel owner's goal is with the property, but it feels like a dying animal begging to be taken out back and shot already. It's hard to describe without a long series of pictures but try to imagine what a hotel from 1982 communist Hungary would look like, after 30 years of general wear and tear and amortization, and you can maybe imagine what this hotel is like. Literally everything is out-dated and in need of replacement, to the point where it would probably be more cost-effective to tear it down and build a brand new hotel in its place. Everything was generally crap, but the things that stuck out: The 20 year-old yellow stained mattresses have deep holes in them from the thousands of people sleeping on them over the years. No air conditioning unless you pay extra. They disabled the gate on the hotel parking lot and just leave it open now, it probably used too much electricity, or simply broke and they didn't feel like fixing it lol. The WiFi is basically unusable unless you plan on only reading static web pages (no YouTube), and even then 50% of web pages are blocked by the hotel firewall (basically any technology related sites). It can take hot water about 5 minutes to reach your room from somewhere faaaaaaaaar away in the building, and the bottom of the bathtub has deep black scars on it from 30 years of use. The entire hotel operation screams of penny-pinching, for example when a tray of food runs out during dinner service in the dining hall they REMOVE THE TRAY and no more (of that) food for you! LOL During the breakfast service they will not cook more eggs until all the eggs have run out!! Every morning there's a long line of angry guests waiting for 15 minutes at a time for the lazy breakfast cook to make more eggs! And even then they only make another small tray, which runs out again after the 5th person!!! You literally feel bad for taking too many scrambled eggs, because the person after you won't get their share!!! LOL. Now that I think about it, the breakfast service feels like a prison camp with starving prisoners waiting in line!! The zoo and amusement park next to the hotel are scams. Go if the hotel can give you free entrance tickets, but otherwise they're also just 1980s communism simulators, the amusement park especially. The rides have been rusting there for the last 30 years and they're basically for little children. As an adult, you will find none of them satisfying. There are no other hotel alternatives in this price range in the area I can recommend, so if you don't want to spend too much, just rent an Air B&B and drive to the aqua park/spa (as that's what's next to the hotel).

    Never going back

Some hotels just simply dont care about the dirty rooms, messy walls, horrible bathrooms, terrible cleaning. During our week they changed our towels once. We caught a lot of bugs, stinky bugs. Tv is like 15years old. The waiters were terrible, the food, except one cake, some kind of cake, was horrible, In spite the fact that I eat everything. I am NOT joking, I never joke about food! Once at half of the dinner time I asked for fish, which bowl was empty, they said they ran out of it.... it is really disappointing, because the area is just amazing. Trust me, dont book here!

Surviveable time-travel experience to the eighties

"Surviveable time-travel experience to the eighties." wrote another traveler and I agree with add-on: no investment into upkeep. But internet functions, and check-in personel was competant and friendly. Hot bath very pleasant So two-three and not one stars.
