    My home in Jiufen

The place is perfect! The location is easy to find just right below the stairs to Jiufen old street and in front of bus stop. They have dorm rooms for female which I prefer since I'm trAvelling solo. I also love their huge storage box that accommodates all my luggage and shopping bags. They even have a balcony where you can rest and enjoy the view. Ms. Jenny is so accommodating and fun. It was nice talking to her about Jiufen. I will surely stay here again.

Perfect place to stay in Jiufen!!!

Amazing place and literally beside Old Street and A Mei Tea House (spirited away). Jenny and James are the best hosts! Great balcony view and right across the bus station! Beds are dorm types and comfortable! Each comes with its own locker and plug/outlet. The bathroom and toilet are shared, clean and with a water heater. Breakfast is served every morning, ours was a delicious sandwich and the season fruit, had it with coffee. The other travelers are equally great. Had a lovely time overall - will definitely be back!

Brilliant view and super friendly & helpful hosts

I originally budgeted 1 night to come to Jiufen, unfortunately I seem to have problems with the trains in Taiwan and ended up in Hualien, so I replanned things and came back the next week at the end of my trip. The first night I stayed @ First Stop which is where I had been booked the week before , but they were full booked the next night and recommended My Story because of how close it was. I think any disappointment of was cast aside by the helpfulness of Jenny, who let me print up some travel documents at the hostel which saved me a lot of time & hassle. I did feel a little guilty that I hadn't planned for more time to explore the area, as I only walked around the old town and then to the Golden Waterfall & YingYang Sea. The other great bits about My Story are the view which is amazing looking down over the coast and the location which is right at the bus stop. Having taken the train to get there (and then a bus) and the bus straight back to Taipei, I recommend the bus especially if staying close to the Ximen area. If I came back to Jiufen I'd be hard press to decide whether to stay @ First Stop or My Story since I liked both. If I was going to be active and spending less time at the hostel I'd say stay at My Story, you're closer to the bus stop and it's easier getting around. If I want to relax at the hostel I'd say First Stop, it's more secluded and the extra steps to get to and from are as bad if you're not going up and down them several times a day. Also they have some cats that like to hang out outside the hostel.

Value hostel in a good location

If you're visiting Jiufen, you should absolutely be there late enough to experience it at night! While it's a lovely city at all times of the day, seeing the lanterns lit up after dusk is just comparable. As such, most likely you'll need a room in the town, and this fits the bill perfectly if you're looking to stick around without spending too much. It's a basic hostel without the most modern amenities, but it covers the basics well for a relatively low price (for an expensive area). In addition, the hostess is exceedingly friendly! When there was an issue that caused me to be double charged, she immediately contacted me about it (even though I probably wouldn't have noticed had she not). Would happily return if I'm in Jiufen again! Room type: Bunk bed in mixed room Lockers Size: Large enough for airline carry on a plus a little more Access: Built in combination lock that you set yourself Bed Bunk type: Wood frame bunk bed Outlet by/in bunk: Y Bunk curtains: Y Set up bedding yourself: N Break down bedding yourself: N Bathrooms (separate men's and women's) Number: (In just the men's) 2 urinals, 1 shower, 1 shower/toilet Combined toilet/shower: Y Bathroom shampoo/conditioner/body wash: Shampoo & body wash Common Area: Small room with couch seating Amenities Included sandals: Y Included breakfast: N Misc Elevator: N, and it's on the 3rd floor Location: Excellent - right on the outer edge of the town Value: Excellent - low price for an expensive, touristic area

Basic accommodation close to Old Street

Ill preface that I did not have a good stay at this hostel, but I view it to be an isolated incident. The issue was that a college group of men and women stayed two of the three nights of my reservation. It went as you can expect. If I had known this earlier I would not have booked. And after a disastrous 2 nights, I checked out early. The manager was very understanding and apologetic and we resolved the issue privately. So while I wouldnt stay again, I think it can still be a good basic option if youre in Jiufen. Hostel is located at the steps of the old staircase to old town. Its a brutal walk up but very charming and historic. The dumpling restaurant on the main floor (managed by the hostel owner) is tasty and reasonably priced. Bus stop to/from Ruifang is right across the street. Bathrooms are very basic, with two showers. Breakfast is not included and the 7-11 is up several steep steps so plan accordingly. Bedrooms are separated by curtains but otherwise its just one giant room with beds inside. Sound carries a lot and you have some privacy but not much. Beds are semi comfortable but you have a light and basket for your stuff. Good locker storage too. Manager is really nice, speaks great English and has a lot of advice and tips about the area. Hope your stay is better than mine.
