Truly exceptionalWe chose to stay here rather than in Cooktown lured by the eco lodge status. Turned out to be a great decision. Such an enchanted location deep in the forest accessed by a 4 km unsealed road which you get used to and only 10 minutes from an iconic pub. The hosts are a delight and provided great tips on what to do in the area. The cabins are comfortable. Dinners are great even if a bit pricey. A truly exceptional experience.

A hideaway in the middle of the rainforestExcellent hospitality! The hosts were exceptionally helpful. We arrived after 7pm, after we couldn't secure accommodation at the Lion's Den and WOW! I am glad we couldn't! They were so accommodating...wanted to chop wood for us and help us settle in. Absolutely lovely man! The room was gorgeous and so comfortable. When breakfast came around, we were so welcomed and the continental breakfast was lovely. Went for a walk down by the creek and took in the serenity...So glad we couldn't get in to the Lion's Den hotel! Would definitely go to Mungumby Lodge again.

Peace in the rainforestWe spent 3 nights at Mungumby Lodge, a very peaceful place to rest and rejuvenate away from the digital world. The cabins are set in the rainforest around a communal lodge where breakfast is served. One day we drove to Laura, about an hour and a half away, and walked up to the Split Rock indigenous art site. Another day we drove 20 minutes into Cooktown to buy supplies so that we could have dinner on the patio of the cabin. The dining room and bar at Mungumby Lodge were closed because of the Covid situation, but it was very pleasant eating on our own private patio with the rainforest all around. Isabella and Hamish are delightful hosts and we enjoyed their stories of living in the remote north of Australia.

Amazing discovery in the rainforestWe had driven past the sign for Mungumby Lodge in our previous travels but had never stopped in to have a look. What an amazing discovery! Beautiful individual cabins with everything we needed. Loved the setting, loved the lodge itself and meeting the hosts Hamish and Isabella was such a pleasure. Their passion and knowledge for the whole area was inspirational. They are making the most of the covid situation this year and went out of their way to ensure our stay was relaxing and enjoyable. We look forward to returning to this stunning hidden getaway.
