  Almost Perfect in Every Way

  I've stayed at some of the finest hotels worldwide and this one is one of the best I've ever experienced.It was so sumptuous, that I wanted to move in and it was hard to leave after a week. All in all, the best hotel I've been at in Dali, and true winner!The room is very high-tech with free wii-fi and tv to allow you to do any internet on your tvs. Wonderful and highly recommended.

  Incredible value for money - though it is outside the old town

  When I booked our stay at the M.T.B - I didn't realise that the hotel was out of the old town and near the lake. I thought it would be a problem but we were able to use the bikes for free and the scenery around the hotel was absolutely stunning. We woke up to the view of the mountains and the lush green paddyfields which were clearly visible from the large windows of our room. It's about a 15minute bike ride into town and the bikes are new. The staff were really helpful and picked us up from the bus stop when we arrived and dropped us off when we were leaving. The room was amazing for the price - really comfortable bed and lovely decor. Oh and to top it all off we were allowed to wash our clothes for free! A few minor negatives: I got by using basic Mandarin with the staff but non-Chinese speakers might not be able to communicate. When it rains, it becomes quite muddy around the hotel therefore cycling is difficult. Also, no food is available at the hotel and wifi was a bit weak. .

  Fantastic hotel.

  The MTB Hotel is great. The staff are really friendly, attentive and helpful. They only speak a little English but still do their best to help. They don't know everything about the tourist sights in the area though so we had to seek information and bus bookings elsewhere. The location of MTB is really nice in Caicun with bars and restaurants close by but faraway from the crazy hustle of old town but only a short bus or bike to town. (Bikes are no longer free though despite previous reviews) The rooms are comfortable, good wifi, great hot water. This was our best stay in China but is kept from 5 stars given the room was a bit dirty when we checked in, and there was half a day where we had no running water (ie no toilet). The staff apologized and did their best to help though.

  Currently best stay we've had in China

  This hotel has truly been the best hotel we've been to in China: 1. The hotel has free pick-up service - with so many unlicensed taxis trying to rip you off and the regular ones refusing to put their meter on a free pick-up is not only saving you about 150RMB but also saves you bothersome arguing and haggling with taxis who refuse to follow the law. 2. The staff is GREAT. Ever so rarely do you stay in a hotel where you feel the whole staff enjoys your visit and genuinely care about your requests. Unfortunately only one of them spoke English (also some of the best English we've heard in China) but you can get along with the rest of the staff using Google translate. 3. Despite previous reviews the staff were very helpful with attractions and kept showing interest on our plans and gave us advice accordingly. 4. The room was very spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. The room was a little bit dirty but in spots you usually wouldn't be bothered with ie under the table and under the bed 5. The hotel was 30 minutes walk away from the ancient town and there is no sidewalk on the road leading to it, making it difficult to access the best area of Dali. Despite this, there is a bus to the ancient town, and bycicles were available for free. 6. The reason that despite the negatives this place deserves 5 starts is that a night before we were set to leave for Lijiang by train a friend of the staff visited them before heading to Lijiang, knowing this the hotel staff immediately offered us to join him as we came back in the evening, saving us not only money but so much trouble with public transport to our next hotel.

  Very dirty but cheap

  The hotel is located far from the old town. You can walk (40 minutes), take the bus or rent a bicycle (not free anymore). Around the hotel are a lot of building sites, therefore it is dirty. There is no breakfast (although booked, confirmed and paid) available or any other food. The rooms are not cleaned during the stay and have been dirty in the beginning. If you are used to the low chinese standart of cleaning and just go for the price, book MTB otherwise search for better options.
