  Authentic and warm accommodations.

  The Mountain Jam hostel is run by an energetic woman by the name of Itsumi. Her home style cooking is fabulous and has rubbed off on her son, who owns the Jam Cafe situated directly in front of the hostel. The rooms are quite small and don't expect much decoration, but they are clean and warm. We visited in the winter and looking the houses and how thin the walls look, we were a bit worried about staying warm! The only down side to the rooms is they are all Japanese style and have single beds, so if your a couple be prepared to snuggle close. This place was a great way to experience local Hokkaido food and company for a very reasonable price. The Jam Cafe is also one of the coziest bars with great food and good prices. The location is also a major plus. It is in the heart of Hirafu, minutes from restaurants and a 1 minute walk to the bus stop that takes you up to the mountain. One other note is there is smoking allowed in the hostel, we kept our door close always and didn't have any problem with the smell. But if your sensitive to this you may want to consider elsewhere.

  Great location. But not so great facilities.

  The lodge it self is fairly central in upper Hirafu, close to shops and walking distance to the lifts. However there is a night club less than 10meters down the road and we just happened to stay there during one of their raves. Noise. Drunks. Drugs. Piss. You name it. The shower rooms in the hostel for the womens bathroom is a half curtain. So you could pretty much see right through. Its opposite the mens bathroom so at no point did I feel comfortable using it. Bed linen and general state of the place was pretty dirty. Wouldn't stay here again. Much better options just around the corner.

  worth the money, small and nice mansion, good location

  it is operated by one lady call Kato San, the hostel is a bit old but to me it has it's style and it is like homestay with a jap family feeling. good point: Kato san is a nice and helpful lady, wait us at kutchan station and fetch us to her mansion, because we do not rent car, if not because of her help it might be difficult to get there. good location, it is located near the lift and all the ski school and rental shop, very convenient, a good ramen shop and seico mart just near by too, all by walking distance. The hostel is clean and it is japanese traditional home. this is one of the cheapest place i can find in niseko, the rest of hotel are super expensive in niseko/kutchan area. Bad point: Hotel operated by only one person, and kato san's english is not very good, but as long as you describe clearly what you need, she will help you. Only have one guy and one lady bath room, if too many ppl staying might be long queue to use the bath room and it is traditional jap bath room. Summary: overall we enjoy our stay here in Mountain Jam. good location, clean, worth the money, so i can spend more in snowboarding and food.
