Weekend TripI recently stayed at the Motel 6 on US 77 Bypass. The room was what I expected, no frills. The room was clean and the bed semi-comfortable. The only downside to the room was the shower. It was a small, half-mooned shaped one and was pretty tiny. There is literally no room in the shower to spread out. This shower would not work for anyone who is overweight! The staff was friendly. The only thing I would recommend to the owner would be to have some basic utensils for guests. I had take out food and I did not get a fork with it. The motel owner did not have any and I have to make another trip into K-ville just to get a fork. These little things make a stay nicer.

Bed Bugs in Room 129The room is basic, nothing fancy. Adequate for a one night sleep. The employee who checked me in, Joanna I think, was very nice. The next morning I woke up with mild irritation on my face, arms and back of my left leg which I thought were mosquito bites that I had received while I slept. It is south TX after all. By early afternoon they had turned into dime-size super-itchy welts/blisters and were identified as bites from bed bugs. One week later (today) and they're still irritating my skin. I notified the motel two days after my stay about the bugs in the room. I stopped by the motel on day three to show them the physical results of what the bites were doing to my skin and the manager, Lara, essentially hinted that I was trying to commit fraud in order to get my money back. She claimed the exterminator found no sign of the bugs yet didn't offer any invoice or report from the exterminator. Nor would she provide the contact information of the motel owner. Apparently one big giveaway of bed bugs is that the bites frequently appear as 2-4 individual bites and will often be in a straight line pattern. When she saw the blisters on me she said that fleas also bite in the characteristic straight lines. Huh? Great, so the room had fleas then? I asked if the exterminator had checked the room for fleas and she said no because my room was not a pet-friendly room. And guests never-ever sneak in pets, do they? Lara even went so far as to suggest I could have picked up bed bugs from a public restroom. What kind of manager says this to a guest? An unprofessional one. Stay elsewhere. There are plenty of other motels that don't have bed bugs and have more courteous managers.

Updated, but still motel 6Obviously updated with many short cuts. Room was minimal with no features such as microwave, refrigerator, or coffee maker. Very bare bones. Price and friendliness of front desk gives it a better rating than otherwise.

Made us feel specialWe were returning from a week long road trip to Mexico. Got as far as Kingsville and realized that we were too pooped to drive on into Austin. We pulled in to a Super 8 and they seemed to care less wether or not we stayed with them. Not rude, just totally disinterested. We drove next door to the Motel 6 where the desk clerk greeted us like she meant it. Actually saved $30 per room for the night. Beds were comfortable, rooms were clean, nice and quiet, good coffee in the office in the morning. Repeat for the morning desk clerk, personable and projected his pleasure that we had stayed with them. Just what we needed for continuing on home refreshed.

Not for those who like to sleep in.As a frequent long distance traveler, I often check in to motels well after midnight. I pay to have the room until 11:00 AM, and set my alarm for 10:30. At 9:00 housekeeping walked down the row of rooms banging on each door, moving on to the next, without a word.
