Great placeThough you cannot wear your shoes in the room or in the reception area, this inconvenience was offset by a very nice western room with a Japanese motif. I dressed in a kimono for dinner and it was fun. The Japanese dinner was outstanding and the service excellent.

Highly recommended, especially for its foodVery nice stay. Great hospitality We booked via the officially website. They confirmed via email in English. We had some last minute changes, and they were very accommodating. We stayed in a room with our own outdoor onsen. The mattress was really comfortable. Drinks in fridge were complimentary. Towels are a/v in room as well as in the public bath. Their dinner is one is the best ryokan dinners I have had ( and I have been to more than 30 at least) It does help if u can speak a bit of Japanese. They have a lot of information on Biei in the lounge. They even made a booklet of the local attractions ( most of which are off the beaten path) which is made by their own staff! ( all in Japanese though)

Nice ryokan close to natureStayed one night in Mori No Ryotei Biei last month. This is not a big ryokan and not easily recognisable from among adjacent accommodations. Luckily the hotel staff stood outside the ryokan to greet guests who arrived by driving. I was a bit disappointed when I realised that the room I booked did not have our own open air bath. Felt misled by the photos supplied by the website where I booked. And with the price I paid, it was overpriced for a room with only basic facilities. Nevertheless, the ryokan was nice and quiet. Staff was helpful and spoke good English. Food quality was very good and very well presented.

Highly recommendedThe staff members here are helpful and kind. They tried their very best in speaking English both to understand and to answer our needs. We stayed at a room with private onsen. The onsen inside the room was also natural and continuous-flowing hot spring. The view was excellent. Although the daylight in Hokkaido is short, they installed lighting for the snowy view outside. We enjoyed a wonderful outdoor bath with beautiful view even at night time. Also, it was really quiet even in the outdoor onsen area. They provided most of the amenity that you need during the stay, in which I didn't even have to open my luggage. One thing is that the power sockets were quite far for bed side. Though it could be better to stay away from phone during the retreat. The food was excellent. It was a really nice experience with great service.

Unforgettable, particularly the food which is divineMori no Ryotei is an exceptional experience, and well worth going out of the way to stay at whilst in the Biei area. We are travelling to see the fields, flowers and scenery surrounding Biei in the summer, including doing some gentle cycling. We had a car, so the location of the ryokan was not a problem. From the first time of greeting in the car park, through to the service throughout the stay, I cannot be more positive about the staff. They were keen to help identify meal times, take luggage to the rooms, and explain anything we were interested in. The staff we interacted with had good English, and were happy to explain the food, and also help with drink selections. On the topic of the food, it is a complete standout. What you see in some of the photos uploaded by other travellers is a great indication of what you experience. If you are someone who deeply loves all types of Japanese food, it is a multi-course experience at dinner and breakfast that is brilliant. I really enjoyed it. Just be aware that for more picky eaters it is a set menu. It was, however, a total step above, well beyond most ryokan experiences. The only downside is that a lovely summary of your meal is provided on beautiful paper, but it is Japanese. The hotel itself is also a lovely place. Modern, fresh, and well set out. We had a balcony onsen which was very fun, and everything else in the room is of a high standard. Overall, well worth the money.
