Never againSo there are a lot of great reviews here which is probably the our travel agency picked this place. Our experience however was the complete opposite. We arrived there and there was no one around. After a while this lady comes up to us, we tell her we booked a room for a week. Visibly annoyed she talks to someone one on the phone, tells us the rooms are not ready yet and we could wait at the bar. In the end the room is ready, but what we see is not very nice. It's a cold room, the bathroom was in the bedroom but had no door. We are together for quite a while but we still appreciate some privacy every now and then.. Shower was full of spiders, bed was terrible to sleep on, terribly decorated. No locker available in the room. Outside there is a pool which doesn't look very appealing. There are some old and dirty lounge sets near the pool. The bar is nice but they have limited choice. Other than surfing there was nothing to do in the area. No nice streets, restaurants.. so we decided to book another hotel. Check out however was impossible because there was no one there. Absolutely no one. Bar doesn't open before 4pm. So we left and brought the key with us (island isn't that big and this place is near the airport so we figured out we would return the key later). In the end we returned twice to try to check out, both times no one there. Second time we made sure we went after 4pm and we dropped the key at the bar. Even in hostels I haven't experienced this kind of management. It's a fine place for when you're on a low budget or backpacking with friends I guess, but when you're on your honeymoon and you have high expectations and you want a genuinely nice place, don't come here.

Fantastic, wonderful and private hotel steps from beautiful beachesReviewing this amazing hotel is difficult. For my wife and I, it was an easy five stars. For other people, it will doubtless be one star. If you are expecting white glove turn down service, polished marble halls, or 40" TVs with 1,000 channels then this place is not for you. Its a place for more self-sufficient people than those demanding 24hr room service and groomed beaches. The rooms at the hotel are far more analogous to apartments. Each come with a refrigerator, stove, sink, and basic cooking necessities. Our room (3b) was, I believe, a studio, although it still could have comfortably slept four. It had an ample front room with a full bed, coffee table and chairs and a rear room with a queen bed, dresser, and shelves. There is nowhere to hang clothing other than from the shower. That was never a problem for us, but I know some people look for that. The shower and bathroom were in the main bedroom and only separated by a shower curtain, which might make sharing the space awkward. For us, no problem. There is a nice front patio with table and chairs where we spent many hours drinking Deputies or Banks and enjoying the view. Our room did not have a TV, and internet was very spotty. This was never a problem for us, as the idea of watching TV in a place like this is just ridiculous. The location simply cannot be beat. You sit on your patio with a gorgeous view of turquoise water and can sit and listen to the sound of waves crashing. There are gorgeous sunrises in the morning, and spectacular sunsets in the evening. It is quiet, rustic, and simple. There is a smallish beach a 2 minute walk from the hotel. Its probably 100 feet long and 30 feet deep. Its gorgeous, and probably the best place for swimming nearby because of the breaker wall present there. Down a winding, beautiful, cliffside path is another very large beach where we hardly ever saw more than a person or two. (Its in front of an abandoned resort, we thought it was cool, other people might find it creepy just a heads up). Down a little further is Silver Rock Beach which is a huge beach popular with kiteboarders and windsurfers. On any given day we counted at least 20 of them. Its very rough, and very windy, so not a great swimming beach unless you are very comfortable in rough/current waters. There is a restaurant located on the property which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and a full-bar. The food is quite good, although the menu is small, and the prices are somewhat expensive. Relying on food three meals a day could add up. The bar prices are in line with the rest of the island, with $3 USD rum and cokes all day, and half-price during happy hour. We probably drank 100 of them during the 8 days we were here. Oops. We had no problems that other reviewers mentioned. Check-in was an easy process, and we were met with complimentary drinks and sat on the patio of the restaurant while our room was finalized. That said, we arrived in the middle of the day. If you are arriving after 9:00 PM or before 7:00 AM I would definitely contact the resort who will doubtless make accommodations for your arrival or departure. Every one of the employees at the resort was helpful, friendly, and accommodating. They offered transportation to grocery stores, help with tours, advice, and input when requested. The bar staff and kitchen are similarly friendly and professional, and we were always happy to interact with them. There arent many negatives I could come up with. The location is a double-edged sword. The hotel is so quiet because it is essentially in the middle of nowhere. There isnt much around the hotel, and what is there are mostly vacation rental buildings. Up the street a ways are Bajan residential buildings, with only a few scattered small stores used primarily by the locals. There is one restaurant on the property, and another within walking distance only open for dinner. This makes grocery shopping a necessity, which is made much easier with a rental car. While not exactly required, having a rental car makes things, much, much easier. The taxis are very expensive. We did not know this on arrival, and rented a car after being on the Island for three days. It just made everything much easier. But trust me, after spending a couple of days at more crowded beaches, full of tourists off the cruise ships and locals trying to hawk their wares or offer tours it was always a relief to come back to our quiet and empty beach. Despite the five-star rating, there are improvements that could be made, mostly related to general information. Flyers in the rooms about where local (walkable) markets are located would be helpful. While you can ask anyone at the hotel to call a hotel, telephone numbers to do so on your own would be nice. General information about the hours the restaurant operated would also be useful. Some days it was open for breakfast, other days it wasnt open until 3:00 PM. There did not seem to be much rhyme or reason to it. Once we got food from the grocery store this didnt matter, but if you were relying solely on the restaurant you might find yourself without food until 3:00 PM. Thats really all I could think of. We had an incredible stay. We were looking to unplug, read trash novels, and sit on the beach for a week. This is the absolute perfect place to do that. Its also probably the best hotel from which to surf/kitesurf/kiteboard/windsurf the breezy southern coast. We spoke with many people at the resort, a vast majority of them who were on the third, fourth, or fifteenth trip to the hotel. We plan on joining them, and are already looking forward to and planning our next visit to this incredible hotel.

Great Vibe - would stay again! My wife and 7 year old son stayed here for 10 days and had a very memorable and lovely time. Whether you surf of kitesurf (we don't), i think this is pretty sweet place, not fancy but rather rustic in the bajan sense, right on the waterfront (small beach with many others nearby). The owner Steve offered to take us to the grocery store the next day, he was quite caring and wanted us to have a great stay. A bondfire was starter each night and it's lovely to hang out at the bar/restaurant. We rented a car which you can determine once you get there, for us it was helpful to explore parts of the island. They have a lovely pool which has a great vibe, like the bar which has live music on the weekend. When we visited, there were French, Swiss, Italians, Germans, and Canadians, a very international mix which added to the experience. It is a bit of self serve, and the time slows down in Barbados, which is also pretty great. Our son wanted to move here... We would go back! :)
