  Stop over on the way to Durban from Cape Town

  Peaceful farm environment with incredible staff. The room was clean and the property was well maintained. I would recommend this place. Set a 15 mins outside of town, it was quiet and relaxing. The breakfast was very good and everything was freshly prepared.

  Recommend for business or pleasure.

  I highly recommend Monte Bello Estate. The stay was great. Breakfast was amazing, staff was friendly and very helpful. When load shedding the generator kicks in almost immediately ensuring you have no discomfort.Rooms clean and surroundings are quiet and peace full. Beautiful place as well. Northridge Mall only ten minutes away. A very nice mall with everything you need.

  Stay review

  It was a good experience and great value for money. I just wish there were meal options for dinner. I have booked a business trip for my colleges with a spa treatment so I'm looking forward to that as this was my recommendation.

  Beautiful event venue, but not really a hotel

  The grounds of Monte Bello are both beautiful and beautifully kept. We did a quick tour of the event facilities and they looked lovely - the large room was set for a very large dinner and looked beautiful. The pretty grounds would be lovely setting for a wedding. But....we were two people arriving for a one night stopover between the Cape and Johannesburg. We arrived tired and hungry after a very long day in the car, ducking in and out of trucks on the N1 and were looking forward to relaxing in the beautiful rural venue, with a bottle of wine and a nice dinner. We were dismayed to be told they dont offer dinner, apart from either a beef or chicken pie. We then had to get back in the car and drive what we were told was a few kilometres...but according to our GPS would have been a round journey of 28kms. As fate would have it, we came across Johnny Lucky steak house, which was excellent and we heartily recommend it. BUT....as the driver, I could not have a drink, which was far from what was desired, after driving all day. We then had to drive back in the pitch dark, along country roads, which we dont know. We do not choose to do that. By the time we got back to Monte Bello, it was pitch dark, so we were not able to enjoy the place at all. Had it been disclosed that dinner is not available, we would not have chosen an isolated place to stay. This is a major lack of disclosure and shortcoming. We were also pretty dismayed at the room, which had the most bizarre layout I have ever seen. We had booked the Honeymoon Suite as a nice ending to a long trip. The shower and bath are open to the room. The twin wash basins are right next to the bed. The very small TV is perched HIGH up on the wall, in such a way that it is ludicrously hard to see. The dressing table / coffee area is hidden under the stairs without a light. There is a hanging rail which would impede the entrance to the loo and block the mirror if used....The whole room is dominated by a staircase that goes up to a mezzanine floor which is empty. The room layout needs a serious re-think. Breakfast, by contrast, was very pleasant and we very much enjoyed being able to admire the geese going about their business. In short, Monte Bello should not market this event venue as a normal hotel.

  A lovely date date night out.

  Close to Bloemfontein and yet far enough to enjoy an affordable night out as a couple. I would certainly do it again and this time I will book earlier to ensure we get a couple's retreat spa treatment as well.
