  Relaxing , tranquil & very safe ( as per Covid -19 )

  Just returned from a 4 night stay at the Monaci - a tranquil and relaxing 4 days. The Hotel is set in a remote area to ensure that you are away from traffic and pollution . Hotel room was impeccably clean and overlooking vineyards. Great setting for couples and families . All the team is amazing - everyone is ready to assist you in the best way possible. Never felt uneasy about sanitary conditions. Definitely not crowded enough to keep to social distancing :) all staff wore masks at all times and if was apparent that hygiene was on top of their priority list! Food: preferred lunch rather than dinner simply due to the portion size - Im not a huge eater though Id require bigger portion sizes :) Lunch was amazing though - had the best salad . Cheers to all the team, especially Alessandro the Barman ! Keep it up !

  A short week stay

  The room was beautiful, the staff charming and the food out of this world. The perfect place to stay for those wanting a convenient base from which to explore the delights and culture of Eastern Sicily.

  Etna and the countryside. Relaxing stay, great rooms and friendly staff

  The location on the edge of Etna is charming; rural and peaceful. The Estate Room category room was well equipped, comfortable, stylish and offered good levels of privacy. The swimming pool area is very pleasant. Very relaxing. Great barman and cocktail menu. The restaurant was a little bit hit and miss; some of the courses were stunning (eg spaghetti), others just okay (and not cheap). We found sticking to starters and first courses was the way ahead as the main courses we had did miss the mark. The "slow" food concept was however sometimes also applied (unintentionally) to the service, especially on a day when breakfast was inside due to bad weather. Service at breakfast and dinner does need a little bit of focus from management. However, the staff are charming and if you take the view that you are holiday so time is not of the essence, it should not ruin the experience. The hotel's own wines are excellent and highly recommended. Excellent reception staff, contactable by WhatsApp. Fixed an excellent wine tasting and lunch at a local vineyard.

  Wonderful

  Absolutely lovely place to finish off our 10 days in Sicily - pricey but worth it! Already planning our return, to stay a bit longer next time. Service and staff brilliant, beautiful quiet position, rooms well-designed with all amenities. Beware, it will ruin other hotels for you!

  Disappointing experience

  Monaci delle terre nere got my interest after positive reviews on leading life style magazines. The rooms are stylish and comfortable and the estate is a pleasent spot on the Etna Slopes. The food experience in the Estate was very disappointing, in particular my guests having heard nice feedback from their friends, leading journalist that visited the estate before, feel so disheartened. First of all, we ordered pasta as being local and organic, however the pasta that arrived was Barilla or some other commercial pasta branda. I pointed out to the restaurant manager, at first she was surprised we noticed (yes my guests are food experts), afterwards she politely excused us that it was mistake from the chef. However, few minutes later, they serve the same paste to other guests. This means a lack of integrity to the guests. I felt very bad about this restaurant, one can promote environmentally friendly , organic cuisine , if they lie on the ingredients they use. The restaurant manager told us that they make their own tomato souce at the estate, however there are piles of tomato souce from a sicilian brand. The wineyard of the estate seems abandoned. Overall , even if the estate is well refurbished, i did not like the fact that the staff were lieng. The philosophy of the estate needs to be audited by relais chauteaux. Based on my experience and the perception of the ingredients, they were no organic at all. I hope this interview will help senior management in auditing their practice for future reference.
