Friendly staff, relaxing locationWe stayed at the Molsroen Strandhotel at the start of what was to be a journey of nearly four weeks with various stopping points in northern Europe. We had hoped that it would be a relaxed place to start off on our travels, so we booked three nights there. Unfortunately, our flight from North Carolina to Dulles Airport was delayed, so we never made our original connection to Copenhagen, giving us just a two night stay. The hotel was, however, still a relaxing place to be. It's an open and spacious hotel, with rooms for conferences as well as guestrooms. We were given a room on the backside of the hotel. The staff explained that most of the hotel was booked by large group of folks working for a high-end cookware company starting the day after our arrival; they thought things would be quieter for us at the end of the back hall. Things were indeed very quiet for the first day, as it seemed we were among the very few guests at the hotel. Even when the cookware folks arrived the next day (we gather they had all the rooms except for ours), the hotel didn't seem especially crowded or noisy. The staff was very friendly and provided some good suggestions about exploring the area. The hotel is across the street from a beach, although it wasn't immediately apparent that there was much of a beach to be seen. There is a stretch of grassland, which is all that you can see from the road, but if you cross over the grassland, there's a pleasant beach on a quiet bay. Although sunny and dry, the weather on our days at Molskroen was somewhat cool and a bit windy, everyone I will give further prolonged rose the beach was almost deserted except for a few folks walking dogs. There was a nice view to the town of Ebeltoft about six kilometers to the southwest along the curve of the bay. The fact that there was a shuttered pop-up bar in the grasslands suggested that things might be busier on the beach on warmer days. Our room at the hotel (228) was reasonably spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. There was, however, almost no counterspace in the bathroom, and the glass shower door could easily slam into the outside of the sink if it were opened quickly (fortunately we only had to do that once before we learned). One trashcan in the room was probably a bit less than needed, but since we were unpacking a lot of things for a long stay in Europe, we probably generated more trash than most hotel guests. Breakfasts were great. Prospective travelers reading reviews for the Molskroen Strandhotel should be aware that the classic old hotel Molskroen, just a couple of hundred yards up the road is a different establishment than the more modern establishment that we visited.

Less than we expectedWe got the message a few days before arrival that it would impossible to sea us in the restaurant. Not a very good start as we had selected the hotel partly fo this reason. Book well ahead if yo are staying here and want any food. There are no realistic alternatives - we ended up in a small local shop buying biscuits and cheese! The hotel is OK - the staff seemed a bit to busy to care about two one-nighters while they looked after the party that was filling the restaurant. Room was OK - overlooking the garden. Overall not quite what we were expecting.

Clean fresh rooms, comfortable bedsWhat a lovely area! Beautifully situated hotel. Rooms very fresh, clean and light. Beds comfortable with crisp linens. Shower strong and good, though small. Rather have a shower door, because here the curtain keeps clinging to your body, which is uncomfortable. Last point: shades are very thin and white, causing you to be awake from sunrise, which can be lovely. However, it would be nice if you could have a choice and could sleep in a darker environment if you like.

housekeepingThe house rules state that the room is cleaned up untill 2 p.m. With us, the "do not disturb" card was posted until 12 noon. Upon returning, the room turned out not to be cleaned. The staff leaves at 12 noon for the sister hotel across the street and does not return. The receptionist said that she could not be expected to check all the "do not disturb" cards of all the rooms so there was no cleaning. On all the years that I've traveled, I have never experienced such bad treatment.

Perfect and coronasafe stay at StrandhotelletStrandhotellet (The Beach Hotel) is situated on the other side of the road of Molskroen. We stayed for three nights and had a room with a balcony to the seaside. The two separated beds were very comfortable and the bathroom is quite big to danish standards. Breakfast was outstanding: we had to make a reservation for a certain time and breakfast was served by the friendly staff at the table. Absolutely coronasafe. A perfect hotel with a central location if you come for hiking or cycling in and around Mols Bjerge.
