Did not have our "confirmed" booking and never apologized

We booked 1 night at this ryokan via hotels.com. We made the trip there with the family from Osaka and when we tried to check in the desk clerk could not locate our booking. We showed our confirmed booking on the phone (since we did not have access to printer while travelling) to the desk clerk and was told they do not have our booking at all and they were sold out for the night. The desk clerk disappeared for a while without any explanation and later found they contacted hotels.com to proof the legitimacy of our booking. The hotel did not offer us any options nor try to help in finding us another place to stay for the night. We had no choice but to take the last bus back to Osaka. Basically, we made the trip and was denied a room without any apologies from the hotel and/or hotels.com. The hotel tried to blame we made the booking at the wrong booking portal and they only dealt with Expedia. Hotels.com and Expedia.com are essentially the same company! We were very disappointed since the hotel did not try to help us at all and simply told us they had no room and it's our fault. This left a sour taste to our vacation and to Japanese Hospitality.

    Comfortable Inn, Wonderful Service

The hot spring inn is located about 600m from the Arima Onsen train station. It is about 1.5 hours from Osaka (Yumeda) station, and about 30 minutes from Kobe. Arima Onsen is one of the oldest, if not the oldest hot spring towns in Japan. Miyukiso Hanamusubi provides comfortable rooms (some with hot spring tubs, bit more pricey) and delicious Japanese Kinseki dinner and breakfast. Staff was friendly (some English and Mandarin speaking) and service was excellent!

    Wonderful ryokan experience

The staff are very friendly. I called the hotel to pick us from the station. The room was nice and also the food! They also let you chosen the type of pillow that you want. Great place, I definitely come back here again.

Good food, great service, nice room

Worth the splurge if you can get a "deal" which is still pretty pricey but definitely worth it given the quality...We paid a little less than $600 for 1 night, a Monday in October, for the Matsu Room (per their website) including half board (dinner and breakfast) for 2 people. It is also known as "Traditional deluxe, Non Smoking (with High Class Open-air bath)" if booking on Expedia like we did. We booked a little over 2 months in advance and used an expedia F&F coupon code we applied or it would have been a little over $600 even then. However, that same exact room goes for about $1000 for 1 night on other nights, when booking last minute etc. The main reason for the splurge and most memorable part about the room we booked is undoubtedly the private outdoor bath with Kin Sen (gold water). It was spacious enough for 2 people to sit including my bf and was immaculately clean. Surprisingly, there was no mold anywhere on the wood despite how much water gets splashed around there...not sure if they just clean it really well or it is because of the water's special properties? The room itself was very clean as well and extremely spacious, even by western standards but definitely by Japanese standards and a nice way to end our trip after being crammed in closet sizes rooms in Tokyo and Osaka. I loved the super fancy toilet that opens and sanitizes everytime you open the door to the bathroom--we called it the R2D2 toilet. Free WiFi in the room! The Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were both delicious and high quality. Really unique dishes you don't see in the US Japanese restaurants or even in the countless Japanese restaurants we browsed the menus of in Osaka and Tokyo--though I'm sure similar dishes can be found there if we went out of our way to seek it. Overall, the staff was really friendly and the front desk spoke enough English to communicate with us. Definitely a great way to experience an authentic hot spring ryokan and Arima Onsen's signature gold water hot spring bath in private if you are not a fan of the public baths.

Not worth the money. Not coming back.

We stayed here one night for a family event. The Onsen was extremely small and could not accommodate more than 10 people that we had to be standing and waiting after we took all our clothes off to use the body washing area in the Onsen. This was quite annoying. There were also foreigners with bathtowels wrapped around their bodies in the bath. We noticed there were many foreigners but almost no signage/information to tell them how to use the Onsen facility properly. It was extremely unsanitary. The hotel should make efforts to teach and guide them. Another thing to note. While we were sitting and relaxing outside Onsen to get cooled off after we finish bathing, a male staff came and turned off all air conditioning. The Onsen was still open at that time and there were many more people still bathing. It could have been his routine but he could have been more considerate. Our stay was not enjoyable nor relaxing. We stayed in this hotel once, a long time ago and it was a better place then. The service has definitely gone bad. The food was nothing special. It is definitely not worth the money and so we will never come back.
