A word of warning if you are planning to drive to Mitchell Falls Wilderness LodgeWe had booked and prepaid for a stay at the Mitchell Falls Wilderness Lodge (which isn't a cheap stay). When we collected the 4 wheel drive in Broome we were told that travel to Mitchell Falls was prohibited. The reason being the state of the road from Drysdale River Station (a fact confirmed by most people we spoke to including APT passengers). Avis mentioned the frequency of vehicles being written off as a result of an accident on the road - in our drive to Drysdale River Station (as far as we were allowed to drive) we witnessed one such accident - a 4 WD flipped and was a total writeoff. We were glad that we hadn't risked driving to Mitchell completely uninsured. The risk is too great. We were forced to cancel our stay and fly into the Falls for the day. Apparently most rental car companies have banned travel to Mitchell Falls. Something we wish they had told us ahead of time. We were disappointed that APT knowing that we were independent travellers, and surely knowing the rental car companies policy might have alerted us to the issue. They didn't and have retained a substantial amount of our prepayment. So anybody planning to drive a rental into Mitchell Falls - be warned. Check with the rental car company as to whether you can drive there.

The best in hospitalityThe team at the village made us feel soooo welcome and SPECIAL. The service was exceptional, and in a friendly way. On Each of the 3 days, they all remembered where we were going and asked, with genuine interest, how our day was. They are meticulous with cleaning in this very cute wilderness village. The food was awesome. Mitchell Falls and the Surveyors Pool are magnificent, but it was because of Natasha and the beautiful team at the village that we didnt want to leave.

Amazing stayWe stayed here as independent travellers for 3 nights during our drive across the Gibb River. We chose the wilderness lodge as the road to Mitchell River Falls is not great and we did not wish to risk our off-road camper trailer damaging more tyres or shockies. The safari tent accommodation was first class and the ensuite was a luxury in the middle of the Kimberley region. Breakfast and Dinner were provided and the food was excellent. I can't fault the team or the accommodation. The staff were do friendly and it was a truly relaxing and awesome stay. It is only a 30 minute drive to the Carpark at the falls from the lodge so it is super convenient for trekking the falls.

Great Glamping and hospitalityWe were an "independent traveller" couple and enjoyed a lovely stay here. Yes the road in here is atrocious and we blew both rear shock absorbers on the way in. This is not the lodge's fault but we would not have driven in we had know the road was so bad. The hospitality here was second to none - food was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful. Yes the tents are smaller than the Bungle Bungles - but still very comfortable. The overnight temperatures were quite low - 6 degrees and a request for an extra blanket saw one delivered to our room before we had finished dinner. The swimming hole was a very nice respite for the heat of the afternoon.
