    The modest hotel

Time: August 2014. +: The hotel is located close to the sea, friendly staff, there are everything you need in the rooms, but there was no a split system and a fridge. -: The breakfast is so modest and the same every day. The majority of people in the hotel and in Pietra Ligure are pensioners. Cleaning sometimes was not as perfect as wanted. The sea is clean, the beach with yellow sand and small colourful pebbles. The city centre is 10 mins by walk. There was nothing to do for young people at the night time((

    Minerva Pietra Ligure

It must be said that I have been to this hotel for several times. I really appreciate the location of the hotel and the fact that all members of the staff are helpful and friendly. Generally, the hotel is family-friendly. The dining room is air conditioned, the cuisine is fine, the swimming pool and parking place are not so far from the hotel (ca. 1 or 2 minutes). There are a wifi, tv with the satellite, safe and inbuilt hairdryer. The beach is also not so far from the hotel (ca. 5 or 10 minutes), hotel has own beach for its guests. The best period for visit it is a time around Aug 15, when there is a great celebration with a firework.

Very modest hotel near the beach

It is quite difficult to say anything nice about hotel Minerva. It is old, it is noisy. The elevator is (too) small, interior decorating seems to stem from the late 70s. I must add that we were on a package group deal including breakfast and dinner. There were two groups, us and a group of German tourists. There were also a couple of guests who didn't seem to be part of any group plus one older man who seemed residential. Breakfast was modest with coffee/tea from a machine, lemonade that was marketed as fruit juice, cold milk, cold cuts, cold eggs and a variety of jams and other sweet toppings (also for the yogurt). There were slices of cake which were modest but tasty. The room was old fashioned. Our toilet seat was loose when we entered the room. But it was fixed the next day after we had filed a complaint. We had a shower, toilet, bidet and washing basin in the room, but hot water was scarce. Small soap bars and packets of shower gel were provided. No coffee or tea maker in the room. The TV featured lots of Italian channels. The balcony with two chairs, a table and an ashtray had cracks in it and a rusty guard rail so we used the balcony with caution. On every balcony was a rusty drying rack which was good for drying bathing suits and towels. It was not allowed to bring the hotel towels to the swimming pool or beach, so bring your own. We were promised staff would be speaking various languages but most of them understood mainly Italian. A couple of them were really nice but the majority seemed like the couldn't care less, or worse, they didn't really want us there. The price-included supper was a nightmare. Every day a three course dinner was served at 19:30 hrs. 100+ guests at the same time. The menu was different each day and tomorrow's menu was presented as an A5 copy at today's dinner with three appetizers and three main courses in Italian with a very short English translation (eg ''ham and cheese'' or ''turkey''). I was stupid enough to order the Turkey and it was almost all skin and no white meat. For desert either cake, ice cream or fruit. The fruit was not fresh, the cake was not thawed so ice cream was the safest choice. Two scoops, different (surprise) flavours every day The only thing that can be said in favour of this hotel is that it is situated at walking distance of the beach and near train station and bus stop.
