Out of the way, but very good

This hotel is probably not the first choice for most tourists to Osaka: it is nowhere near the centre or any of the tourist places. But it is near both Osaka University and Kansai University (if you have business there), it is across the street from a suburban railway station (always good in Japan), from which you have a direct rail connection to the Central Station and with one change of trains to either of Osaka's two airports. The price is very good, and the breakfast buffet (a choice of Western and Japanese food) excellent (but maybe a bit monotonous after a week). Friendly people and good service.

    Handy for Kansai University

Stayed here for a conference at Kansai University Senriyama campus, for which it is easily accessible (2 stations, 5 mins with train). The hotel is easy to find, right in front of the Minamisenri station. Friendly staff, and it is great you can open the window a little bit. Most negative thing: the room reeked of cigarette smoke, and also the air coming via air conditioning was not fresh, as, typical to Japanese business hotels, there is this constant smell of cigarette smoke. Otherwise the room was very clean.

Nice Hotel For My First Stay In Japan

This was my first trip to Japan, so I have nothing to compare the Crystal to. However, since most other things in Japan tend to be "compact" I would assume smaller rooms are typical of Japanese hotels. The room was about the size of my dorm in college. A very small bureau, small bathroom, small pillow and a firm (which is being forgiving) mattress. There is a restaurant in the hotel although I did not eat there. No Wifi that I found (probably available, I am not fluent in the language) but my room had an ethernet connection. We were up & out early & returned late, so the lack of room and/or amenities was not a big deal. Room was clean and I did not notice the smell of smoke as a few reviews indicated. Remember to give the front desk your key when you leave or they don't clean your room! IIf you exercise there is a park adjacent to the hotel with roughly a 3/4 mile outer loop. There are another 3-4 parks within a mile of the hotel as well. Overall if I return on business again I would stay here without any second thoughts.

    Reasonable Place but Ridiculous Rules

We recently had two stays here as we were visiting our daughter and grandchildren who live in the area. The first stay was for four nights and our room on the seventh floor seemed to be pretty old and unrenovated. The second stay was for three nights and our room on the eighth floor seemed as if it had been partly renovated with a new couch, desk, carpet and curtains. It had a smarter overall look to it than the first room. Both rooms were on the north side overlooking a large park so the views were great. The bathrooms in both were pretty similar and very tiny. It was hard to get into the bathroom without bumping your leg on the toilet. The rooms themselves were big enough to have a couch and small table in them, so weren't as small as some Japanese rooms can be. The hotel has a coin laundry which was great as we could wash clothes whenever we wanted. We took our own wi-fi router and plugged it in in the room. Thus the wifi was good. I don't know how it would have been without the router. I was originally told that they don't promise wifi in the rooms as it doesn't work well in all of them, which is pretty bad in this day and age. I had specifically requested non-smoking rooms and was told they have a non-smoking floor but if the hotel is full they put smokers on the non-smoking floor!!! I never found out which was meant to be the non-smoking floor. I did once smell smoke in the corridor in the first room on the seventh floor. This hotel would have been fine if it hadn't been for the strange rules which were conveyed to us in very bad English. No-one working on the desk speaks good English but they showed me an attempted English translation of their rules about visitors. Basically they tried to say that you can't have visitors in your room ever. I ignored this as it sounded ridiculous to me. Our daughter and grandchildren came to visit during the day sometimes and as far as I was concerned, we had paid for the room so they were entitled to sit in it with us as our invited guests. This place isn't cheap - we paid around $170AUD per night for the room which is a lot for way out in the northern suburbs. So if you stay here and you want to have visitors, tell them to come to your room without going to the front desk first as if they go to the desk they won't be allowed in your room. .
