Somewhat oldish and IMO overpricedIt was my first stay in Astana, so I didnt know what to expect. Unfortunately the staff, although appearing friendly, does not speak English (except for the manager). The room (single) was small and smelly. There was enough hot water. Wifi is included. They charge quite a lot for cleaning the clothes, but at least they were able to lower the price. Tge breakfast is below average, by any standard. There wad, unlike specified, no massage service. I have no problem with a lower standard, but the price is too high, even for European standards. I am aware that Astana is quite expensive. But I recommend renting an apartment, as the return for money is much higher.

Very weird hotelThis is the worst hotel i think I have stayed in. No-one speaks english except for a woman who works for 3-4 hours per day..outside of this..bedlam for guests. The breakfast was suspect, stale and not fresh in any regard. We knew something was up when people were renting the hotel by the hour!! and alot of women came and went quite frequently from the rooms... Not that clean, not a great location but located next to a funny but interesting 24 hour bar. I would not recommend

Very good budget hotel. The Bayun Sulu is a very good, budget hotel. It is by no means a multi-star, American style hotel., but if you are accustomed to staying in pensions and other budget places, you should be more than satisfied. Our room, and the hotel in general, was spotlessly clean. It was quiet and comfortable, and it had good Wi-Fi. The Bayan is better than most budget hotels, and given Astanas reputation for high prices, I consider it to be very economical. I wouldnt hesitate to come back. I am a bit puzzled by one reviewers comment about hourly rentals. I saw no such activity. Not even a hint. Central Asia generally does not cater to English speaking tourists. If you want to get around on a budget, you have to learn a few phrases of Russian. This was my first trip to the area, and without any Russian at all, I sometimes felt quite helpless. The staff at the hotel was helpful. When language got frustrating, they brought up Google translator on the computer. I wish things were different, but English is not widely understood outside the large tourist hotels. With respect to prices, the double room was very economical. Combined with dinner at a local pizza café, we paid a total of $35 per person. This included two beers! Compared to the King Hotel where we stayed previously, the hotel and dinner were almost free. Astana can get expensive. If you want to save money and can make do without English, the Bayan Sulu is definitely a worthwhile place to stay.

disapointing (after reading bookings.com reports)firstly the hotel has had name change ,so no tripadvisor reports, previuosly called;;;BAYAN SALU;;,place looks good from outsine and rooms a have had paintjob, but still old furnishings slightly worn and damaged, wifi only works in receptionand first floor near router,i moved rooms 3 times to get working wifi,tv is normal cable only no English channels, spacious rooms (I had the suite)had a bath (no plug)kettle(no coffee)tv in bedroom didn't work, the worst thing of all was the comings and goings during the night(suspicious ladys shall we call them making house calls)as reported on BAYAN SALU reports ,,,breakfast was dire 1 egg ,stale bread, tea only, served in Turkish smokey bar next door (you walk through the betting shop for access, the price is far to much for what you get ,there are better places next door and cheaper,,there is no English speaking in hotel reception only the mananger,,,,the girl had to use computer translate to ask me questions,,,,when the wifi was working,,,has 4 floors and no lift
