  Beware of the dogs

  I booked this place via Hotel.com. Excellent check in process with an extremely pleasant member of staff. Room was comfortable, although not particularly warm. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast cooked to order. Although it says a restaurant is open Monday-Thursday, sadly not this Thursday. The owner went out of their way to help me order an Indian take away, even put it on their card and charged to my room. They have 3 dogs. One is deaf and that was the reason I was given for it biting at my ankle. Not a pleasant experience. Later in the evening I walked into the bar area wearing only socks and trod on a deposit the dog had left . It was unpleasant. Upon leaving I was advised to phone first and not go through booking.com as I would get a better price. I suspect more to do with them not having to pay a commission.

  Unpleasant manners.

  We had this venue for my dad's wake, we counted and had respondents from all who attended, the owner proceeded to bill us for significantly more people as they "counted plates", I however know I received 2 plates, my friend 3 plates and this happened to many people. Upon trying to talk to the owner regarding the situation to see if a agreement could be made regarding numbers they was extremely rude to my grieving mum and put the phone down on her. Its is small and the food acceptable. We also asked for the "bar" to be opened and had to wait a extremely long time for it to be open and the bar itself was very limited. I would not recommend this venue for a wake.

  Great hospitality and lovely hosts. Stayed there as base to explore Exmoor National park when it opened up. Could not have had a more enjoyable stay at the Meryan House. Lovely peaceful surroundings. Fab.

  Nice stay for a funeral

  We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel for a funeral. It was lovely, very welcoming, nice breakfast and really helpful owners. We felt really safe there being away from home during Covid.

  Welcome break in our journey to Cornwall

  Great hospitality very helpful. Rooms/comfort amazing. Lovely breakfast. Parking available foc, pub across the road and dog walking area nearby. Welcome break, if we return to Cornwall we will not hesitate to book rooms here again and not consider an alternative. Very welcoming proprietors We enjoyed our stay and welcome break in a long journey to Cornwall and decided to stay again on our return journey
