  Cancelled at 48 Hours notice

  Having booked with the hotel a couple of months ago as part of a Virgin Experience package received an email at 48 hours notice saying that due to unforeseen circumstances we were being relocated to Maidstone - 15 miles away. Central booking gave no explanation and have asked for refund.

  Appalling

  Received confirmation of booking a month ago. Received email from Manager saying he was looking forward to welcoming us on Friday. (Received last night 6pm) got an email from central reservation at 9am today transferring us to a different hotel with no spa facilities or treatments in Maidstone! Will never use again.

  Run down and better avoided

  Firstly the location; this hotel is in Pembury, not Tunbridge Wells, so you need to drive or get a Taxi if you actually want to spend time in Tunbridge Wells - it is not really walking distance. Next, this hotel has the feeling like it needs an thorough update - the bar area is bland and uninspiring, the rooms, dark with peeling paint and bathrooms which have seen better days. The service was generally ok and the restaurant under COVID conditions acceptable for breakfast but we ordered a bottle of champagne from the bar and after a long wait when it arrived it wasnt chilled! We regularly stay at ACCOR hotels but I would avoid this one as there are so many better places available in Tunbridge Wells.

  Hotel still in the 20th century. Rude staff member upon arrival

  The pictures the hotel use paint a false picture, the room looked like they haven't been updated since the 80s, appalling decor, cracks in the sink, chipped wood in the furniture. However the bed is nice, clean and comfy. Heater is effective but again, out of date, some modern Air Con Needed. Breakfast was nice and the breakfast staff were great. However, we arrived late on Friday, about 23:30 in the rain. I had been at a funeral earlier in the day and was tired and had simply left my mask in the car, while my partner is exempt. Upon checking in with one member of staff, a other member staff came from round the back and started being extrmeley rude and hostile, explaining things and saying as I was halfway through being checked in and it's raining outside I will go back and get mask after, as no one else was around this seemed fair, but the hostile member of staff became more rude and I can only describe it as aggressive, completely left a dark cloud over our stay.

  Not sure why the negative reviews

  I spent x2 weeks at the MERCURE Tunbridge Well as a base while caring for my mother at the end of her life. The hotel was very conveniently located for the Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury (a short walk away) and by a 24 hour garage with attached convenience store and the local Tesco. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the hotel safe and quiet and the staff kind, courteous and professional. (Yes, the decor is a little tired - but for me that was neither here nor there). I stayed during Lockdown No 3 (under government exemptions of caring for the vulnerable / visiting the dying) and was relieved to find somewhere open and close to the hospital. Room tip: Room 122 is on the ground floor, has a window that opens fully and has a bath
