¡Regresaremos pronto!

Great location for LondonThe hotel is in a good location, just off the M25. Easy access for me down the M1 into London. Lots of Covid measures in place, with lovely staff. Hotel itself was a little cold, air conditioning in the bedroom was on heat for arrival, which was nice. Room service was fast, limited menu I guess again because of Covid

Absolutely disgusting!!I checked into the Mercure on Saturday evening. The car park was in complete darkness and there were two, what appeared like unsavoury characters sat on the wall, clutching a carrier bag. I nervously found my way from the car park to the main reception, which wasn't particularly well sign-posted even if there had been light and I waited by the desk. A member of staff eventually arrived, asked for my name and handed me the plastic room key (no wrap around card with room number or further details on) and was told I was in room 6, which was down the corridor on the right. That was it. No further information on breakfast, or evening meal, check out time or anything else which may have been helpful. I decided that there was probably a myriad of information available in the room, so made my way down the corridor to find it. It was noticeable walking down the corridor how dirty the hotel was, with dirt on the carpet, thick dust on the window frames, as well as the remnants of a spilled cup of coffee on a window sill, which had clearly been left for a long time, without any sort of care or attention. If this was the state of the public areas, I was not looking forward to seeing the room. Upon entering the room, it was clear that this was a bog standard room and was absolutely tiny. Literally a small bathroom just through the door and then a bed... that was it! Now, I'm not someone who suffers from claustrophobia and nor am I a hotel snob, as I appreciate it's just a bed for the night, however, this room was extremely hot, stuffy, dark, claustrophobic and generally unpleasant. Considering we can't actually leave the room, this was not a place I wanted to stay for any great length of time. I decided not to unpack my things and instead went back to reception and requested another room. I was told that I could have an alternative room, however all the rooms are the same size, which I found odd. Never the less, I accepted the key to the new room (room 20 on the same floor) and asked what the situation was for breakfast and evening meal. I was told that breakfast would be continental in a bag that would appear outside my room open to the elements (I actually passed one on the journey to my room!) and then the evening meal was room service only, until 9pm and I was handed a menu (not sure why these couldn't be provided in the room in the first place?). I made my way to room 20, which was a carbon copy of the room I had just vacated and although this one was much cooler, it was still pretty grim. I sat for a while and tried to work out if I was going to be able to sleep in that room tonight and the more I looked around, the more I realised that the room was filthy. Thick dust on a number of surfaces, laminate from the desk peeling off, debris on the carpet and generally unclean. At least I can have a cup of tea I thought, everything seems better after a cup of tea...! I picked up the kettle, which was caked with a white residue around the spout and opened up the lid in order to fill it with water, only to be greeted by limescale floating in the bottom. That was the final straw! I went online and swiftly looked for another hotel, as this was completely unacceptable. I went back to reception to check out and return my key and waited ages for anyone from reception to arrive. Unfortunately, there was no sign of anyone, so I left the key on the desk and vacated the hotel and travelled to the new one. I emailed the hotel to let them know that I had left, but in keeping with the rest of the service I received, I am yet to receive a response four days later - maybe they think I'm still in there amongst the dirt and grime?! Considering the latest government announcements and London being placed into Tier 4, you would have thought that cleanliness would be paramount. Not in this hotel sadly. I did not feel comfortable or safe there, the rooms were well below an acceptable standard considering this is supposed to be a 4* hotel and the level of service left a lot to be desired. Would not recommend!

Afternoon tea celebration following a funeralFrom the start, the events staff helped by advising us on the the best approach for our family gathering in December 2020 to celebrate my Mother's life. We really appreciated the lovely rooms they prepared for our afternoon tea and the excellent selection of sandwiches and cakes were varied and tasty and enjoyed by all of us. Everyone we dealt with at the hotel, including Tony at the front desk and Sharma who served us and especially Laura, the Events Manager, have all been extremely helpful in making the booking and then during the event itself. This was particularly appreciated because of the many additional challenges presented by the difficult Covid-based restrictions then in place. We were very grateful to the hotel staff for making this a very worthwhile special event for us all on a difficult day for our family. Thank you.

Harry Potter/Birthday stayWe stayed in a suite, easy check in on line then we collected the key from reception. The room was cold on entering but we adjusted the thermostat and the room soon heated up. We did not eat here the room was adequate for a one night stay. We chose here due to location for Harry Potter. We would stay again. We had clean towels, toiletries and tea/coffee provided. There is a fridge in the room, bed area and seating. Bathroom is shower only, shower is amazing.
