Very goodI stayed with my partner, the room was very clean and comfortable, excellent. I did have an issue during my stay regarding another room but the hotel manager addressed my issue and it was sorted out to my satisfaction. Nice hotel and in a good location in the town centre. Staff were lovely. Didnt have breakfast so cant leave a comment. Hopefully I can return at some point

Day before lockdown wedding! We had a day before lockdown wedding at the Mercure Hotel in Darlington. We changed the wedding date from the 11th April to 22nd March on the 17th March and they still managed to tackle our huge request wonderfully! We couldn't have asked for anything more stunning. It was all so last minute as we knew something drastic was going to happen to do with covid, but the hotel provided every last detail and service perfectly. It was small, intimate, beautiful and such an amazing wedding. Even with changes and requests after our wedding and trying to sort another party etc, they have been truly understanding and empathetic and as far as we're concerned, outstanding in their customer service. We thank them hugely and look forward to another party when all this covid madness has finished. Events staff made our not so proper wedding day into our very special little dream! Many many thanks to great staff and a great hotel!

A different experience..I stayed at the Mercure Darlington Kings Hotel recently and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. It was however a stay with a difference simply due to Covid. First of all there is no parking at the hotel - I found the nearby Colonnades Shopping centre an ideal car park (£5.50 for 12 hours is a good deal) being under cover and regularly patrolled so it is very safe. The hotel is a five minute walk away. The Hotel staff it has to be said were very efficient and welcoming - the hotel has all the precautions in hand to deal with covid and those precautions extended throughout my stay. The reception and restaurant staff were very welcoming. It would have been nice to have a room with a view however I had a room which was on the inside of the building with windows facing onto a roof. The windows didn,t open very far so I never got to even see the roof! The room was warm , and the bed comfortable however the chair at the desk has seen better days and could do with being updated (not very comfortable if you are using the desk as a place to work). The breakfast I really enjoyed - there is a wide choice however the full English really set me up well for the day. The one thing that kind of let it down for me was the limited choice in the restaurant at night - its probably due to covid however it seemed to me that a lot of the dishes were 'bought in' and not prepared fresh - the fish particularly and the majority of the sweets were a good example of that. I am sure that the chef feels his hands tied to a point as far as this is concerned however this is only an observation and not a complaint. The hotel has a small lift but access from the front for the disabled is particularly poor. The hotel however was ideal for what I was using it for and I would use it again - but I'd request a room with a view the next time!

BREAKFAST A SCAMThe hotel itself is fine, good view from the bedroom. Not sure why we were placed on the 4th floor when we were one of very few in the building but never mind, My main problem is the breakfast. I paid for a breakfast for 2 and this is what i received. A cheese and tomato sandwich, a mini croissant (Yes - MINI!! It was the size of my palm if that) and the rest shown in the picture. What an absolute waste of money that was Wont be buying breakfast again, was expecting a choice of 2 full englishs at least.. However hotel like i said was fine and staff were nice enough!
