Good location, room could have been better

We stayed in a two bedroom apartment. Upon finding the hotel which isnt really visible from the street we arrived at our room. First entrance into the room it was clean. Move to the kitchen... it was not. There was oil and left over crud on the cupboards, the appliances were covered in crap.. oh and the stove top didnt work. After spending the night there the beds were comfortable enough but the pillows were something to desired.. felt like my head was on top of mount koziosco. So as I mentioned the stove top... this was working but as I begun cooking breakfast decided to stop working.. upon numerous attempts to call and locate the manager I finally was called back. The manager arrived at our apartment and observed the stove top to not be working, she allowed us access to another apartment to finish cooking breakfast.. that was great except the other apartment had been used the night before, it stunk, was dirty and was not enjoyable to cook in. There was a coffee machine without the complimentary pods, tea and hot chocolate satchels.. although the ones in our room were expired. The pool.. well it wasnt like the pictures online. It is an infinity pool but the water does not flow over the edge, instead there was stale water in the catching part and it was full of dead bugs and spiders. Really disappointed with our stay and for the price of the room it hurts a little more.

    Poor after hours service.

Hotel is clean and comfortable. After hours assistance is very poor. Our room key failed to work on our return from a function late at night. It had worked at check-in and at our return after lunch, but staff made adjustments to the door lock in the afternoon while we were there and failed to check if i was ok after this. It took an hour for calls to the after hours number to be answered, and it was inferred that we had damaged the card in some way. The card was in my shirt pocket all night with nothing else to cause so called damage. No proper apology was ever made by management and a requested call not returned.

Nice staff, strange pricing, inferior furnishings

I recently stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment and the positives were a huge wrap around balcony and spacious apartment. the staff were always very friendly and helpful but that is where the positives ended. Five of us rebooked a rollaway bed yet there was only plates, glasses etc for 4 so we had to ask for more. The room rate varies daily and can be a difference of a few hundred dollars. When I was told that the apartment is sometimes listed at $690 for the night (though we paid less) I was shocked. The outdoor settings are very worn and the "pleather dining seats" had to be replaced and the floor vacuumed to remove all the black vinyl that came off after sitting on them. Ofcourse it was stuck to our feet and clothing. A cheap green owl was one of the decorations. We also found the lift areas had a strange smell and awful decor. Often big bags of linen were waiting there to be collected. The lobby is tiny. The accommodation is a short walk to South Bank, up a small hill on the return. While the pictures look beautiful and upmarket, I felt the reality was disappointing and while I acknowledge peak season rates I don' appreciate booking for one rate only to check later and see the same room at a much cheaper rate a few days later. I did not see the pool area but some people in the lift described it as "cute.". I gave 3 stars because the staff were really nice and the location is handy.

    Rude, dirty and poor management

Room was not clean 5hrs after check in time. I was 1 of 8 rooms waiting. I thought I was polite by going for a walk and lunch while they sorted all the rooms out but was only ridiculed upon my return. Worst customer service interaction I've ever had. Was asked if I've ever traveled before and was belittled publicly. This was in the reception with half a dozen other people present. Manager then proceeded to berated the only cleaning lady in front of guests even though it's managements responsibility to schedule more cleaners during peak season. She also claimed that 'Covid isn't an actual issue' Money is better spent literally anywhere else.

Two separate rooms smell strongly of cooked food

This is a tricky review to word appropriately for me. The first issue (albeit not major) was having to check in before access to car parking was available and this street and surrounds are extremely difficult to find a car park in. We checked in at reception and parked in the underground parking zone and opened the door to our room where our sense of smell was assaulted by an unpleasant strong smell which was our second issue. We went directly to reception and received polite and friendly service by the lady who expressed surprise at any residual smell after room cleaning, and quickly reassigned us to a different room without any negative body language or comment. The second allocated room on level 3 also smelled of cooking odours but not overwhelming like the first room at level one. On discovery we found the cafe at street level(which may have had exhaust vents ?? that contributed to the pervasive smell in the level one room). This cafe menu was provided for guests to consider and I suspect previous guests had consumed the spicy food, that dominated the selections, in room. There was also cooking elements and microwave in the room and cooking odours may have lingered from cooking/reheating or consuming the in house cafe food. Our third issue was a broken latch on our room patio that completely fell out of the wall screw holes leaving our room unsecured from the patio. We left the latch on the bench in the room. The room appeared clean (although aromatic with food odours), was well designed and good layout. The rooftop pool area was fine with a lovely outlook over a neighbouring church. We walked to QPAC via the food street and found it to be a quick and easy walk.
