  basic with a rural feel as in the dawn chorus

  It appears that most people either hate these self catering apartments or love them. As we were in the oldest part and not in the newer souli or sellini apartments, we could understand why the negative reports. Yes it is a very quiet apartment on the edge of the resort and nearly next to the countryside with all that noise from cockreales (they did not seem to realise that dawn chorus does not start at 2am in the morning). The apartment is the older type with limited facities and typical greek pumping (ie it can be smelly) but for a base to tour the island or for a relaxing beach holiday then it can be ideal. as the balconey is the largest and most sunniest in the evening we,ve seen or enjoyed in a number of year. it is clean but some things have seen their better days as towels (holey and well washed) matteress and pillows clean but stained. Apartment cleaned 6 days out of seven and water always hot.

  Sellini : Alykes : How do I put this ?

  How do I put this ? OK, I now know the meaning of the word basic. Studio appartment, Sellini : Very clean, white, minimum furniture and equipment Probably the most boring and minimalist appartment ever. Complex : Very clean, location spectacular. Staff : OK. Owner : Jimmy is famous at this stage. Motormouth, plenty of entertainment watching family row ( 3 that we saw ). Bit of a bandit : 120 euro for airconditioning, 70 for safe ( no refunds ) for 12 days. Very peculiar attitude. Saw 3 groups of clients arrive from UK between 5 & 6 am. They were still waiting to get into their rooms at 8.30 am. Amazing !! Don't know who was to blame ! Others have covered the distance to the village and beach - The Long Walk. The problem with Zante is that it is tiny. One or two tours and that's it, you've seen everything. Best bet is to hire a car, bike or buggy. The town of Alykes is clean,friendly, good food mostly, great beach, sea and weather. But unless you are : A sun worshipper, drinker, eater or have kids that are not easily bored, there is'nt a lot else to do. And that included the whole island. There are some watersports available but diving entails a 45 km round trip. But well worth the money. If you are self-catering DO NOT buy from the smaller markets. There is a big shop in Alykes ( Montes ) which is better value or, best of all is the supermarket in Kalastari ( 15 minute walk towards the mountain from Sellini ). If you are hiring a moped or quad, avoid Denis in the centre of the town. Mopeds and quads generally old and tatty. Try Tom, Rentamoto, ( on the road to Alykanas ) or Nicos in the town. Best restaurant has to be Paradasiako on the road between Alykes and Alykanas. You might have to book to avoid a wait though. OK, to sum up : Wife and I would return to Alykes but not to Sellini ( which is unfortunate given the view ). A week to 10 days would be enough though. For us, definitely a chill out place. Safe as houses and great weather and beach. I do bear in mind that we did stay in the first two weeks in September but I don't think it would make any difference when you went, it would still get a bit boring after a week or so. Go there to relax but don't expect the sort of entertainment that you would see on Lanzarote or Majorca for instance.

  Spectacular view and super friendly family run studios!

  Very very clean and very friendly host and his daughter run this amazing studios in Spetses, rooms are very very clean!! We had sea view, the room has plenty space for three adult and the terasse (actually the whole floor) has fantastic view to the sea. Theo Studios is about 10 minutes walk from harbour. Just turn left after two sea restaurant and 300 meters and you are there! Spetses itself was perfect for tranquille holiday, very nice bebble beaches, You have to rent a mountain bike, You see so much more. The owner offer also transport to near ferry port, thanks that also. 10 points stay!! There were also small nice garden and everything is taking care. People are very friendly in Spetses and in Theo Studios. If I come back, hopefully come, I would have again accommodation in theo Studios!

  Simple windy accomodation

  Booked via travel agency, self accomodation. No too far from the sea (about 200 metres) in side street very close to the Votsalakia center (curve in the middle of the village). Old, but suffice equipment, fridge, cooker very common. Complains about the mattress. Nr. 10 with two balconies, so we didn´t pay extra money for the air conditioning, although at the beggining of the July temperature was high even in the nights. Wind on the island was very strong and blew nonstop. Common bathroom. The only noise were roosters crowing.
