  So convenient to the Eye & Ear Hospital

  My husband had to have an operation at the Eye & Ear Hospital with an overnight stop and I needed a place to stay close by. This turned out to be the closest, an easy 500m walk. The studio I had contained everything needed for an overnight, or longer, stay. Bed was comfortable and there was a handy on site restaurant/cafe. Room service was also available. Considering it's location on Brunswick Rd I found it relatively quiet. A little updating may be required but for my needs i fitted the bill nicely.

  Friendly , comfortable and in a great location

  This review is months out of date as my stay at the Metropole was last October , 2019 , pre Covid 19 , when the world was a very different place . Which in a way makes my memories of my trip to Oz , and to Melbourne , and the Metropole ,even more enjoyable to recall. After travelling almost non-stop for over 24 hours ,above all - well apart from a cold beer - you want a hassle-free , quick , relaxed welcome at your hotel and thats exactly what I received . All the staff on reception were very helpful . laid-back and friendly ; in fact conforming , to all the ( favourable ) Aussie stereotypes i'd hoped to encounter . I'd describe the accomodation as comfortable and functional rather than luxurious , but when i'm on a trip to see the world thats what i want . I ust want everyting in the room to work ( which it did) and to be convenient for everywhere i want to go ( which it was) . The kitchenette / bathroom / lounge had everything you'd need , the bed was comfortable , but above all the location of the Metropole was exactly what i was looking for . - it's far enough out of the city to be relatively quiet but with a tramstop ( no.11) less than 100 yds away , you can be at Flinders St or Federation Square in 20 mins . And if youre feeling a little more energetic , you can walk into the city centre in 25 -30 mins . - because its not right in the city , there's much more of feeling of being somewhere that people actually live in rather than just visit for work or a day / night out . - where the Mteropole was perfect for me was its location near the junction of Brunswick St and Gertrude St. Around the corner in Gertrude St there are numerous cafes ,bars , and a few local shops inc. a mini-market where you can buy the invaluable Myki card to use on all the trams and trains . Likewise straight down Brunswick St , within 10-15 minutes walk there are numerous really good bars and restaurants . As someone for whom getting something nice to eat and drink in the evening after a hard day's " Touristing" is a major consideration , it was great to have so many good places within easy walking distance of the hotel - a french bistro , a spanish tapas bar , thai and vietnamese restaurants , pizza places and some great Aussie pubs where the locals of Fitzroy certainly know how to enjoy themselves . as you may have guessed by now , i rather enjoyed it ):

  Good stay

  I was going into Hospital very near by & hubby stayed here while I was in. I did stay the night before I went in & it was a lovely suite (2 room & an ensuite). The bed was super comfortable. The Hotel is very handy to the city & Royal Exhibition Building & Museum. Just make sure that when you check in that you check with reception that you have been checked in for the correct number of night that you have requested (we had a bit of a mix up) I would recommend this accommodation. There was a pool on site.

  Loved this motel

  Hard to find a motel in Melbourne with a pool and you don't have to pay to park your car. Great value. Easy to check in, reception were friendly and welcoming. Loved the pool. Walking distance to tram, cafes etc. Would definitely stay here again.

  Perfect place to stay

  It was my first visit to this Hotel and I can tell you it will not be my last. Very handy to the near by Hospitals if you are attending them. Great value for money and check in was fast and very courteous staff. They were kind enough to let me Park my car earlier than check in time and next day leave it later as I had two more appointments,this was very much appreciated. Every time I visit this will be my choice of Hotels. Only 5 minutes to walk to the Carlton garden's and Museum and same time to the Fitzroy garden's. Tram right out the front if you need to get into the city, but it is only a short walk to do so. Very clean and comfortable bed which has everything needed for a great stay. Will be looking forward in Visting again on my next visit to Melbourne.
