Cold War lodgingsSt Petersburg is a stunning city. And as such, you pay a premium for accommodation. Working for five days at the Lenexpo Conference Centre, the official hotels were very expensive and a little searching identified MDK, only a five minute walk from the conference centre. A reminder of the Soviet era, the only really good thing about this hotel is its location. Set amongst menacing looking cold war tower blocks, walking from the main streets felt menacing and the entrance required a buzzer to be opened - less than ideal when coming back late at night. The room was ok...the curtains were damaged which is not ideal when White Nights occur and the bathroom was not exactly spotlessly clean. It had a feeling of the 1970s and a smell to match. All very basic. There was a fridge and a TV but the bed was not great and despite a vehement no smoking policy, the whole place smelt of old smoke - which I gathered was from staff smoking by a doorway which was left open. They occasionally came back in from their posts and I heard a door shut as a waft of smoke followed them. At least it had reliable broadband which was free, as it seems to be in most places in Russia. The breakfast looked so uninviting that I did not try it. If you know you're going to be working long hours, the hotel is fine...not super cheap but reasonably priced. But for anything other than a business stay, I would steer clear.

Nice place to stayI've been working at the St.Petersburg International Economic Forum this year. Decided to stay in the nearest hotel. I was pleasantly surprised by this place- the design and decorations are common but very nice, all facilities are good, clean rooms. Very grateful to a helpful and friendly staff. Felt like home there! Breakfasts are basic but for me it was enough. Highly recommend this place!

spending nice weekendMe and my boyfriend used the special offer to spend a romantic weekend. The hotel is situated on a quiet street, has its own parking, what was comfortable for us, we came by car, but is also just 2 busstations from the metro. It doesnt take much time to get to the center. The room we found nice and promissed romantic atmosphere was perfectly arranged for us. talking in parcticular there is a comfortable bed, a closet, table with a lamp with a mirror next t it, an armchair, a small fridge, safe, phone and tv - everything whats needed i think, bathroom is clean, thnx got there was a fine hairdryer )) The only thing we didnt like ( but it wasnt a big deal) was doors slapping too loud, neighbours woke us up in the morning. Of course we checked their spa-center with sauna, hammam and jacuzzi - relaxation and enjoyment. Also there was a solarium and a restroom with karaoke. Staff was polite and attentive. We didnt regrret staying there for a weekend, thnx MDK for this special offer )

Good hotel close to LenexpoOnce you have found the hotel - not the easiest thing to do - the hotel offers you a surprise inside. I stayed in room no. 1, which was spacious, clean and quiet. The bathroom was large, the shower powerful and good, the bed gave a good night's sleep. Free wifi is available. The breakfast was good enough to start the day on. Definitely value for your money. And the hotel is a walking distance from Lenexpo, so this is a suitable hotel for exhibitors.

This place is horrible!!So this is a small hotel managed by truly horrible people. When we told them that we will leave a negative review, they said we dont care we will add fake ones after yours... The hotel is just bad. Small uncomfortable rooms. Everything is of very poor quality but this is not super critical. What make the experience truly horrible is the staff: they feel that their proximity to LenExpo Center make that they can treat people horribly because the hotel will always be on demand. So it get interesting with the breakfast: you have to say that you want the breakfast to the reception. Then the receptionist leave and go put some food in the microwave and put it on the table. There is no one at reception during that whole time so you imagine when several people ask for breakfast at the same time and the reception is just empty for 30mn... Any request is answered with a No: - No only 1 towel per person - No we will not help a woman carry her luggage to the 3rd floor without elevators... So conclusion: do not go there. These people need to understand that you cant treat customers like that.
