We'll love to come againStayed here with our children (13 and 6 years). Authentic Swiss hospitality for families in the Zermatt-area, Booked directly by the hotel a suite for 2/8 persons. Little bit more expensive than the other appartments, but absolutely value for money!! Great, complete, modern, groundfloor appartment with more than 100 m2 including 2 bathrooms, lots of space and very clean. Great place to stay with kids as the total complex measures over 8.000 m2, off-road!! Imagine what that will bring in summer for kids. They have children-entertainment in a great playground area. Two sauna's and a small swimmingpool. Everything can be reached trough the parking garage, which is great in wintertime, either to your appartment, the hotel or f.e. kids playground or sauna. Good hospitality and good authentic Swiss kitchen and the best woodoven pizza's ever!! Easy to book halfboard or go out for a la carte in the hotelrestaurant. Breadservice available and very nice and friendly staff! In wintertime a hotel-skibus brings you to to the piste in 5 minutes or you can drive your own car. What more do you need for a family holiday if you look for a authentic Swiss place tot stay? We'll love to come again.

Good family accommodationWe stayed here, as a family of four, for just an ovenight stop on the way back to UK from Italy. It was a little off the beaten track, in a semi rural location, but worth the detour. Our Sat Nav had trouble finding it but we noticed a roadsign pointing to the access road a liitle way before reaching the town of Grachen. The hotel is a complex of several buildings - the one we stayed in had spacious and well equipped apartments that could sleep up to six people. All had balconies with wonderful mountain views. The apartment was very comfortable and clean although the decor and furnishings could do with some updating./maintenance e.g the main light in the living area was hanging from the ceiling by its exposed wires and the ladder on the children's bunk was held together with masking tape! Nevertheless the rooms were very spacious and good value for money. There were no English channels on the TV but there are lots of interesting little walks you could go on close to the Hotel. There is a small pool in the main building which we used- but it is a splash pool really - you cant swim lengths in it and changing facilities appear to be shared. We had a very pleasant evening in the restaurant/pizzeria where you can watch your pizza being stone baked in a wood fired oven.Residents get a discount off the menu. There was also children's menu with Chicken nuggets on which kept the children happy and the restaurant was also the venue for breakfast which was good value. There is an underground garage. Beware as the light is on a timer and if you dawdle you will find yourself suddenly plunged into darkness! The receptionist Isobel, spoke good English and was very helpful. We lost our camera while we were there but the Hotel found it after we left and Isobel posted it back to us in the UK! That's what I call good service! We thought overall that La Collina was excellent value for the size of accommodation offered and set in pretty location. We look forward to staying again sometime and would reccomend.

Far away from Grächen, too expensiveOn our 8-day tour around Monte Rosa, we stopped in Grächen at the hotel La Collina. This was a bad surprise when we realized that the hotel is in an adjacent village and had to be reached by bus. We were nicely received, so we stayed for dinner which was ok but horrendously overpriced. We would for sure not stay in this hotel any more.

Friendly, but inconsistentAll the hotels in Zermatt were booked for the weekend before the Swiss National Day (Aug 1) so we arranged accommodations here. The rooms were fine, and the 3 and 2 year old grand children enjoyed the playground on premise. However, the restaurant was not in operation for dinner - so we ended up having a nice, but expensive, Swiss dinner plate of bread, cheese and meat. The staff was friendly - in the evening it consisted of the owner and her three children. In the morning it included one person in the restaurant. The breakfast was indeed good. The indoor, basement pool was adequate for a relief dip, but as other reviewers said - it is not good for lap swimming. The view of the mountains was nice - and this is what my wife and I spent most of our time doing - watching the sun set behind the mountains and all the color changes it brought to the two glaciers that were within view. Our rooms were modern and clean, with no sign of running down that an earlier reviewer reported. Of course there are at least 4 buildings and we only became familiar with one. There was no soap in the rooms, however, so we needed to ask for that. In summary I would say this is an average accommodation, with some great features and some short comings. With the small staff that was on duty for our visit, they couldn't keep up with everything -- however they were very friendly.
