  beautiful yukata, amazing food, pure luxury

  The Matsunoyu Japanese Ryokan is more like a really luxurious hotel than like a Ryokan. The area of Tamatsukuri Onsen is beautiful and surrounded by nature. A nice shrine is close to the Matsunoyu. I shared one double room with my friend. Each of us could choose two beautiful Yukata (Japanese summer kimono) for the hotel and our room. The room was not only a room, it was more like a huge apartment with an amazing scenic view to the mountains and the forest and some of the outside onsen. This room had a even a small kitchen in a seperate room and a really big bathroom. Everything was nice, clean and modern. The dinner was amazing and really special. I will remember it my whole life. The eating place was so impressive...with a big magatama stone hanging down from the ceiling. We had to touch it, before eating for good fortune. The meal had around 9 courses and it was decorated really detailed. Everything was delicious and the waiter explained about the food (in Japanese). We chose a recommended local alcohol, "Toyo no Aki, which was delicious as well. After the amazing dinner and after I saw how big the ryokan is, I thought the Onsen would be really big as well but it wasn't. They had a nice wellness room and the free beauty products were great. The wather of the Onsen felt great, but the outdoor bath was small compared to some other onsen in that area. Inside were only 2 medium size bathes, one was a bit hotter. The Onsen was all empty but you could pay additional fees to go in other more luxurious onsen bathrooms but I didn't do that, so I don't know how the more expensive Onsen in Matsunoyu are. The breakfast in the morning was a really big delicious buffet.It was mainly Japanese style, but they also had some Western food. The staff of the Matsunoyu was polite and helpful, but they spoke fast and difficult Japanese.

  Modern onsen hotel

  Beautiful modern ryokan hotel with awesome buffet dinner and breakfast. Most of the food were Japanese with a few western styled food "Japanified". The hotel supplies one style of yukata for the gents and many choices for the ladies. The room was spacious and very clean with a modern bathroom. The beds were very comfortable (very important because we have been traveling for two weeks at this point). The area around the hotel was very pleasant to walk around with a river running in front of the hotel.
