Lovely groundsA beautiful setting and garden with inviting pool and comfortable rooms. Charming atmosphere, crisp linens, exceptional staff (we were so appreciative that coffee was made for us earlier than the 8am breakfast time!!) Although the rooms are a bit small with no wifi (an inconvenience at best), our greatest challenge was keeping the room cool enough. In late October, air conditioning is turned off, and rooms are warm and stuffy. As there is no window in the downstairs rooms, you must leave your door open all night. Unfortunately, there are 4-5 resident dogs who bark late into the night.....and often during the night. As comfortable as the bed might be, this means little sleep. Several other guests were complaining of the same issue at breakfast. As lovely as the dogs might be, it should be the guests that are considered.

A casual rural feelMasseria Montelauro is on the edge of Otranto - not really walkable, but an easy taxi ride. The main building is a solid farmhouse, and contains most of the rooms, reception and a small bar. Outside there are grounds with trees, a pool and a pleasant seating area; a separate building contains the restaurant. Our room was a decent size, with a comfortable bed and solid rustic furniture. A few more soft furnishings would have made the acoustic a bit less bathroomy. The bathroom itself was adequate, though perhaps beginning to show its age a little. There is WiFi only in the public areas, and it is very slow - as indeed is the mobile phone network. There is a very good breakfast, with cakes and local specialities, and in the evening the restaurant serves good local food, at the family rather than the chef-y end of the style spectrum. The staff are excellent: very friendly and helpful, and the whole place has a casual feel, in the positive sense of that expression. Overall, a good choice if that is the location you want, though perhaps not a place to seek out in a market with severe competition.

A pleasant stayThis property is a lovely converted monastery with beautiful grounds, clean rooms and a refreshing swimming pool. Not easy to get to unless one has access to a car. The staff is friendly and helpful. Our room did not have internet and there was no place to really hang laundry or wet bathing suits. Breakfast is reasonable and it was delightful to sit outside.

Wonderful people make this place memorableWe arrived at Montelauro more or less accidentally, after our airbnb villa fell through and booked ad hoc the last two rooms they had open. What a wonderful team of staff here, from reception to the person looking after the grounds and the bartender - everyone was just super friendly and kind and very welcoming! We loved the gardens which are a breath of air in the heat and the proximity to Otranto which you can reach either by car or a quick taxi ride. We had only drinks and snacks here as the restaurant was closed, so I cannot speak for the quality of food but there are so many options around that this was not an issue at all. The drinks at the bar are great though!! The rooms are also lovely decorated, slightly loud due to poor soundproofing and could have done more with the showers, but overall very comfy and cosy. We would love to return to Montelauro and heartily recommend it as the most welcoming place we visited in Puglia.

Lovely StayWe loved this Masseria. The staff were very friendly and our rooms were beautiful (lovely and cool too, essential in Puglia in August). There was a great choice for breakfast and dinner was sublime. Oh and the kids loved the swimming pool. Wed love to come back.
