Good food at the restaurant, but not a good business hotel

I stayed there for a night. I explicitly booked the hotel as it stated it had a good internet connection as I had a business Skype conference call scheduled in the evening - and did not want to spend money on roaming charges. Unfortunately, the internet connection was lousy - and I ended up spending the money anyway. The reply I got from the receptionist was: "Well, that is how Internet is in this area." Apart from that, the service is OK, rooms are OK (but some of the equipment is a bit worn out), parking works fine. I also went for dinner and was very happy with the food - but again, it is not a good business hotel.

    Good middle class hotel

This was recommended by a colleague who travels a lot and prefers privately owned hotels in a quiet location. The surroundings in the north-western corner of the Black Forest are lovely, and although the rooms at the front face a fairly busy road and those at the back face a single-track railway the sound insulation is good and we were not disturbed by noise. A double room cost 95 Euro with breakfast. We had a friendly reply from the owner regarding choice of room and enjoyed a large one on the first floor. Although somewhat dated the furnishings are of good quality and in good condition. Everything was clean, and the bed comfortable. The restaurant has a menu with international dishes priced at around 19 Euro for main courses and a local, seasonal one at about a third less. Plaice, at its best in May, (Maischolle) was filleted, fresh and well cooked, good value at 12 Euro although the new potatoes were slightly overcooked and no other fresh vegetables were served. Flammkuchen, which is like Alsace pizza, was good value, and a gratin of fresh asparagus delicately prepared and sauced. There are about a dozen open wines at around 4.50 for 250 mL and two dozen bottles, predominantly German, at around 20 - 30 Euro. Breakfast is limited in choice but scores points for the good coffee and a choice of eggs cooked to order, unusual in a hotel of this class. All the staff we dealt with were friendly, and this was a pleasant place to stay.
