Wonderful Traditional RyokanVery friendly & obliging staff-we were picked up from the station in spite of booking people telling us they wouldn't do it. Also drove us up to the Snow Monkey Park, picked us up afterwards and dropped us at the station- no extra charge ! The 2 males had just enough English to eventually understand & although the little old lady had none, she was utterly charming. we found sleeping in the traditional way a little daunting with the mattress on the floor & pillows that seemed to be full of rice ! We're coddled soft westerners so it took a while to adapt & we came away enjoying the experience but looking forward to a regular bed. The traditional breakfast (optional @ ¥1500 each) was awesome but sitting crosslegged for it was painful(we're past 70 & not very flexible ). Loved the onsen. Located a short walk away from shops & restaurants Concluded that it was a wonderful experience

Great service !We loved staying here. They drove us around where we needed to go. They were very attentive. Breakfast was incredible and totally Japanese style. We couldnt eat it all because there was so much. They made sure we were warm. Beds were firm, but we were really comfortable. Kimonos to wear. Lots of extra special touches. Toothbrushes. Soaps. Tea and Japanese cake on arrival.

Wonderful hostsThe place should be receiving 5 stars. They are very friendly and hospitable. The breakfast was fabulous. The Onsen was great for us (a couple) to use privately. They drove us to and from the station as well as to the snow monkey park. The room was spotless, but, there was some dust along the window ledges in the hallways. The sound of running water outside our window was wonderfully restful. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Amazing traditional ryokan and a free drive to Snow Monkey ParkWe had an amazing one night-stay in Maruka ryokan! Our room with a loggia was spacious and comfy! Great view to the garden is a bonus! Hosts are super friendly, we got a free lift from the train station and back the next day, plus the owner took us in his car to Snow monkey park early in the morning (its crucial, read my another review to know why!). The breakfast was delicious and served in a special room in a traditional way! It can be really cold inside in winter, but once you turn the gas heater in your room on, it became warm quite soon. Besides, sometimes its said that there are no WiFi in the ryokan, but its not quite true: actually you can have Internet connection in a small room near the reception (just ask the landlady), the signal isnt too strong, but just enough to check your messages and e-mail box. Overall, strongly recommended!

Traditional accommodationIts a simple and ordinary accomodation, but Im completely ok with that. Unfortunatelly the owners speak almost no english, but even that was not a barrier. Quite the opposite, with their truely warm handling, they tried to do everything to make the stay memorable. They offered to pick up and drop me at the train station and the Monkey Park. They had a shared bathroom/onsen only. Nevertheless I would stay there again.
