    MARRIOTT????

NOT living up to the Marriot name!

Im usually a very happy Marriot guest, which is why i have stayed loyal to their brand for many many years, but unfortunately, this had to be one of the most disappointing stays we have had at a Marriot property in many years, especially one that wheres the distinctive name of the corporation itself and not just that of Courtyard, Residence, Springhill, Renaissance, Towneplace, Aloft, Four Points, etc. You didnt measure up to those sister brands, and we expect you to meet or exceed that of the Sheraton, Westin, W, etc. Service was slow, faulty, and unsympathetic in most cases. They never did get our mobile key operating even after some lame excuse of me needing to show an additional ID. Both days when we requested towels by the phone, the our Bonvoy acct. and it was ignored for several hours. Then after having to come downstairs to the front desk, they still were quite apathetic about it and on the first day, they actually stated they took the towels to the wrong room and that was the excuse for why we had to come call down a second time. A positive: Pool staff/security guard was very nice. Was really on top of keeping children (who were there staying for a weekend tournament) and using the pool and fitness center, around other guest safe and socially distant, but still pleasant to them and wanting them to enjoy themselves. But even then the front office messed up by running out of towels for them and we courteously gave them a couple that our family had picked up so that they wouldnt have to track back into your nice facility all wet and disturb guest who were already gathering in your bar/restaurant area. We went back a second time, that evening and they had still not replenished the towels. Its not like there were a lot of people in the pool. 15 max. Speaking of the facility, very nicely kept. The housekeepers are doing a fine job keeping up the place, especially with all the extra cleaning necessary during this ongoing COVID crisis and helping keep staff and guest feeling safe, secure, and healthy. It gave us great peace of mind knowing that these standards are being kept high, but when we had need for some extra amenities from an active day, and seeing several other families make some simple request at the front desk, it made us very sad the lack of teamwork and sensitivity noticed about a very senior housekeeper/room service attendant being called on the walkie talkie time and time again to go into the back and get simple items and then take them all the way up to the guests rooms when we were standing right there. Staff members not even half their age did not offer to assist her, and even when we commented that it wasnt any of our business and perhaps they didnt see it as their role to switch out with her for a few minutes to give her a break. But, we just wanted to offer the simple notion that they could bring a few of those items up to the front for guest to retrieve such as a some of the paper coffee cups, some trash bags (for guest who are actually making the effort to help keep their rooms tidy and less dirty for the staff to have to clean), etc. We realize that they might not be able to immediately leave their post, but this dear lady was obviously worn out from all the tracking back and forth and it would seem that at some point in the evening at least some trash bags could be brought up front for guest to take it upon themselves to get like when we wanted to clean up our take out meal instead of junking up the room. They didnt appear to care much for our suggestion and therefore a half an hour later, here comes the lady who I wouldnt want anyone to treat my mom that way, knocking on the door with a simple plastic bag to replace one of the ones in the wastebaskets in the room after two days. Geez, we felt it was our duty at that point to at least give her a tip. Wish she hadnt had to come up to the 9th floor just for that when we had been downstairs to get one and even offered to come back. I'm choosing to keep exact names out of this, not to be overly critical or negative to point it all at a particular staff member. I'm sure you can figure out who they were, but it's not the point to blame any individual, as much as the overall spirit and climate of the place. Its a culture that is dysfunctional and it tainted the whole experience for our family and others we were visiting with who were also staying at this "physically" charming and well kept facility. And then its the little things that add up, like: Breakfast vouchers for our Platinum status not being ready when we checked in even at a very slow time in the evening past 10pm. Only 3 sets of towels being in the room when there are 4 of us on the reservation and coming from a hard day and drive wanting to immediately towel off and go to bed. Building not nearly at capacity either so we know there were plenty of towels available. Even more so, I guess nobody even reads the reservation request of having extra towels in the room since we knew were going to be very active all weekend. Instead of more we got less than even the occupancy for our double queen room. Other pluses, not to ignore the positives and credit where credit is due. Restaurant/Starbucks attendant and the manager, very attentive. Food quality was above average. And we (showed them monetarily) and let them know verbally that we appreciated them. I hope you will praise them too. But, when nobody even tells us how to get to the fitness center, pool, room elevators (not the garage ones that are in clear sight), etc. at the front desk, it was too much for auxiliary staff to make up for. We were wandering around most of the first day trying to figure things out on our own, looking for ways to get simple services like a cup of coffee after Starbucks had closed when breakfast shut down and then went to the room just to make some ourselves with a dirty cup that we had already requested changing. Asking for a new plastic cup for coffee is not a lot, even at the Fairfield inn. And I bet it wouldnt have taken them two hours to bring us one. Oh, and even upon exit. You knew we had a late check out but didnt even bother to consider that we would need to have the keys programmed to last past 11am on our checkout day? Is it lack of training or just apathetic disrespect of guest. Again, its not like there was a crowded lobby of guest to serve and you would think that the staff would be excited to just have a good job in the midst of this ongoing pandemic in our country. And to make matters worse, this weekend was the breakthrough amount of stays of us again getting to a Titanium level of loyalty status with Marriott earlier in the year than we have ever made such a threshold (in Sept, with 3 months still to go). But, given this experience, it makes us question that loyalty just a bit and to consider if we should use the time to consider some other brands. I wouldnt want even a non-member, or anyone to be treated the way that we were this weekend, but you would think you would want to protect and look out for your elite members, especially those at the top tier. We were not expecting any special treatment, but just hoping for decent customer service. We werent appreciated as BonVoy members at all, but even more so, we didnt have the experience that any guest should be able to expect as standard at a Marriot property.

    Not up to Marriott Standards

Stay was not horrible, but not good either. All employees we came across were excellent. But it seriously felt like there was 5 employees in the whole place. Gave up at check out and just left (no one was there). 0 recognition of Marriott member status. This is not a reflection of their service. Asked for a feather free room....not one single foam pillow. But...room was dusty and cobwebs were hanging from ceiling. We had ZERO hot water there the entire time we were there. I thought was a fluke in evening, but nope...cold shower for all. Hotel advertises room service, but there is not any. Only option for breakfast is the "buffet" downstairs....$15 for 5 menu items. No fruit, no yogurt, nothing...Just eggs, potatoes, bacon, french toast (from frozen), and oatmeal. Had to stand in log line at starbucks to buy voucher. Covid guidelines...all employees followed, zero enforcement for guests. LOUD...all night. People screaming up and down the halls, banging on doors, etc...I would not stay here again.

    THE BEST MANAGER

In distress due to car break down on the interstate while traveling from Florida to Indiana and had to get towed off the interstate and stayed at this beautiful hotel the manager Victoria was great and understood that i had a bad 36 hours upon arrival at her property welcome me in and tried to make me feel comfortable and welcome to the hotel. I was. It was great. She and most of the staff was so good that they need an award. It was so good with all the bad hotels to get to a hotel that remembers the need and importance of guest. In 35 years that i had driven thru this area and only stopped for gas and bathroom on the interstate and did not know the class of a great hotel as this one. Under stress the bed was not too good but did not get a good night sleep on the couch, but the service from Victoria was so good. I did not meet her, but i spoke to her on the phone and she made me feel good and welcome. Still stranded in a different state and the quality of service and level of this hotel and no where near the quality and service that i got from this hotel. Folks, this hotel is a class act with great food and great service. Victoria is wonderful.
