  Budget motel

  Stayed for 3 nights with family who were visiting from overseas and needed somewhere cheap and cheerful to stay - this motel delivered just that. The rooms were clean enough but were basic and quite dated. There was very little space in the bathroom to keep washbags and the toilet itself made a constant hissing noise. There were basic kitchen amenities in order to make simple meals. In terms of location, the motel was a 10 minute walk to the centre of Paihia, within easy walking distance of restaurants, shops, the beach and the waterfront. Would recommend the Marlin Court for someone looking to stay on a budget, not a luxury experience.

  Basic and expensive

  Only reason why we booked to stay at this place as it allowed us to bring our dog with us. That's the only positive thing to write about this motel. We booked for 4 nights in room 5 but only stayed for 3 as the bed was terrible, was giving us sore backs and no sleep. There was 4 of us staying and they only gave us 2 towels so ended up getting our own towels out of the supply cupboard. We essentially tided up our own room each day and expected them to replace the used towels, came back to find that they had hung the dirty towels back up on the towel rail....(pretty gross). The kids came back from the pool with pieces of the pool tiles in their hands and the pool area had large weeds coming through from the concrete area around the pool. The owners don't really seem much about the upkeep of the hotel which is a shame as it is located a short walk to the beach and local shops. It was really good that they allowed us to bring our dog with us but unfortunately can't recommend it for any other reason.

  Would not recommend - rude liars

  I made a reservation through my travel agent for 1 night. The reservation was made in March 2019 for a stay in January 2020. My travel agent called and spoke to the person who answers the phone number listed on their website. This phone call was made on 30th December and he confirmed that the reservation was good to go and provided a confirmation number for the booking. The day prior to arrival, my travel agent called again and spoke to the same person as before. My agent confirmed the name of this person at the start of the call to ensure that this was in fact the same person - it was. This time around, he was not able to locate the booking insisting they only accept reservations for a minimum of 2 nights. Whilst this may be true, my reservation was confirmed for 1 night both through my agent and also through this person on 30th December 2019. He insisted that the booking number (given to my agent BY HIM only a week prior to this conversation) had never existed because it was for a 1 night reservation and refused to be of any further assistance. At one stage, he even hung up on my agent. When my agent called back, she again reconfirmed his name (knowing full well it was the same person because he is the only person that answers the phone) only this time, he says that that's not his name and doesn't know who that is. He has now decided to LIE! We did not want to give this motel the satisfaction of trying to charge us for a 2 night stay on arrival so decided to stay at the Outrigger Motel up the road and had a very pleasant and welcoming experience. I cannot stress enough how rude they were to my agent. I do not believe anyone should stay here. From the remainder of the reviews on Trip Advisor, it seems as though we may have dodged a bullet anyway. Save yourself from being lied to and belittled.

  Not recommended

  Booked for 5 nights Checked out after 1 night. Room needed good clean and freshening up. Does NOT have SKY tv despite on some websites stating satellite/cable tv - only has basic 4 channels. Surely SKY tv should be a standard feature in such establishments. Very disappointed and definitely would Not recommend this motel

  Love the sound of the Tui's

  Thankful to have a place to lay our head in the peak of summer holidays. Tidy and clean room, good shower pressure. I suspect previous owners have let the motel fall into neglect judging by previous review comments. Thank you to Ruth for hosting us and allowing us to bring our vehicle in off the road. Very approachable and went out of her way to help us try and find further accomodation in the area when it was decided that we would stay another night but the motel was fully booked out. Wish you well on your new venture. Thank you.
