Family atmosphereWe love the extremely friendly atmosphere at this hotel at which we've stayed about six times now. Its central locations in the town is an advantage it shares with many of the other hotels there. The furniture in the rooms may be old, but the rooms are spacious (for European standards) and very clean; and anything you ask for, you get it right away. The breakfast buffet is, well, princely, and the food served at dinner is really, really good. You get a nice choice, and if you don't like what's on offer for the day, you choose anything from the regular menu, without any fuss and without paying extra. Theres also free internet access in the rooms. The owners of this family-run business really do their utmost to make you feel welcome, appreciated and pampered. It also has its own sauna (next door) and the staff will arrange a masseur for you upon request. We can also bring our dogs without having to pay extra for them.

RejuvenatedWe'd stayed at this hotel roughly ten times or so in the past - till it was sold last year by the couple who owned and ran it. Now we were back for a few days to see what had become of the Markgraefler Hof. It has been completely renovated - i.e. new furniture, new bathrooms, everything painted, a few walls partially knocked down downstairs and old doorways closed up ... the facade has also received a new coat of paint - and a new color. Thus you now feel you enter a new building. What has remained the same is the friendly service and the nice atmosphere, the excellent service and the lavishly laid out breakfast buffet. The hotel is a few minutes on foot from the big park and the spa, as well as from the one little shopping street. The super market is also less than five minutes away on foot. The bus stop is more or less outside the door. Rates gave remained reasonable (for western European standards that is). The one issue we had that there was some undefinable noise during the night, on and off. We first thought it was the fan in the bathroom next door, but then realized this was not possible. It turned out it was the heating system. We turned it off the third night and the rest was silence. When we mentioned that at front desk they said this was still the old system and was slated top be replaced by a new system soonest.

Nice hotel, language can be a problemNice hotel with large rooms (we stayed in the 4 sleeper family room, with kitchen). Staff are friendly but have limited English, so that can be a problem. They allow pets in the hotel. Restaurant situated on lower floors has a nice layout and serves a basic buffet breakfast with bread, yoghurts and a variety of meats and cheeses.

Nice hotel along the sudschwarzweld cyclewayWe stopped one night having cycled from Basel whilst doing the Black Forest cycle way. Hotel is in a great spot 2 minutes walk from the wonderful spa centre and also the village centre for restaurants. Staff were great, hotel is cycle and motorcycle friendly. Breakfast and coffee was super.

An excellent boutique hotelStayed four nights and I found the hotel to be a delight. Very well situated in the town, only a 10 minute walk to the thermal baths and Roman baths in one direction and 10 minutes in the other to the supermarket !! The staff were accommodating and whilst they might not all have been fluent english speakers, I had no problems either being understood or understanding them. A spotless room which was quiet and comfortably furnished, I did stay during a heatwave and aircon would have helped. Didn't sample the restaurant which was outside my modest price range but it did appear to be well populated. All told a very good find and I'd definitely stay again if I was staying in the area.
