Romantic dinner for twoWe visited Bernkastel-Kues off season and were tempted by the outdoor seating in front of this hotel/restaurant. We were not disappointed, the waiter was very helpful and friendly. The food was good, the wine excellent and we were able to enjoy the beautiful town and our dinner.

Very friendly staffThe staff were the best part of this hotel. They looked after us very well and were so kind showing me several bedrooms to choose from. The bedrooms are very varied and so you have to see the different styles. We liked our room which looked as if it had been recently improved with the bath and washbasin in the bedroom and cupboards and loo behind a long wall of frosted glass. I liked the modern touch to the old style room. The bath towels were very small with no towelling dressing gown available. Downstairs is very traditional with heavy woodwork from the region. My husband liked it but I found it all a bit too heavy. We were rushed into an early evening meal as the last orders had to be by 8pm. The food was not very interesting, my steak was tough and did not have much flavour. My husband's meal was no better and when it came to the puddings there was only chocolate mousse, which neither of us particularly like. The town was a complete delight with lots of character. The parking worked well just a short distance along the road.

Romantic Hotel but difficult to contact via e mailWe are the group of 13pax and stayed for two nights in this hotel, nice location and my room was nice and comfortable but some of my friends was not ok, it depend which room you take, especially the room which is having water bed, this room is huge but hardly to sleep on the water bed. Good breakfast with many choice. Only negative was no one response my enquiry via e mail, I sent 4 to 5 times to them but no reply.

Nice, unique, but somewhat disappointingWe stayed in the Gulliver Room (one of the ExklusivZimmer). It looked fabulous in the photos, but we felt that the experience of being in the room was not as nice as was portrayed in the photos. The primary reason for this is that the room feels much darker than the very professionally-done photos show. The windows are small and facing a narrow street, so they don't let in much light, and the lights in the room are dim. To close the curtains over one of the windows requires climbing the bunk bed. Also, the photos are taken at much lower than a normal standing height, so the room in the photos looks more spacious than it actually is. We also found that it wasn't all that comfortable to hang out in the room if we weren't in the bed - the wicker seat accommodates two, but not as comfortably as a sofa, and the sides and cover make an already dark room feel darker. Also, the wifi was terrible in this room - neither our computer nor our phone could reliably connect. Unfortunately, there wasn't really anywhere else to hang out in the hotel - the reception area is tucked away in the back of the hotel and doesn't offer any space to hang out, and we were asked to leave one of the tables beside the street when we tried to read our books there, even though the table we were at wasn't set for serving. On the positive side, the restaurant was very nice for dinner (though we much more strongly recommend the restaurant in the castle above the town), and our server was very warm and friendly. Breakfast was reasonable, but not particularly notable. The photos show the tables laid with white linen, but they don't do this for breakfast, nor do we recall the tables being set that way the evening we were there. The furnishings are probably better described as eclectic rather than exhibiting a more unified sense of style. Overall, we felt that, while this hotel offers a unique experience, we cannot recommend the Gulliver Room (though the other rooms look wonderful in the photos), and we wish that the hotel itself offered guests more spaces to hang out in to enjoy this historical building and town.

We loved this place SO much !!!We booked the Rapunzel suite with roof terrace and jacuzzi after getting married in Bernkastel-Kues. It was absolutely perfect, a real fairytale, beautifully decorated room, so much attention to detail and the jacuzzi was just divine. We also had a 3 course dinner included in the price and had lovely conversations with the waiter and other guests of the hotel. Breakfast was really special and plentiful, with rolls, filled doughnuts, smoked salmon and even sparkling wine. We couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate our marriage. I will always think back of our beautiful time here which was the cherry on top of the cake for our wedding.
