Comfortable with fantastic food and lovely onsen

The dinner and breakfast buffets were delicious, varied and great quality. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were a bit dated but spacious and comfortable. The onsen was amazing, especially the outdoor one. Great location an easy walk from hells valley. Free car park but it could do with resurfacing!

Love it! Great for little kids

So good for little kids - rest and play areas provided for them in the lobby and the onsen floors so nicely thought through too with toys and change tables and cartoons and colouring. And a kids station at breakfast with a chocolate fountain! Oh breakfast is sumptuous! What a spread! We regret not coming down earlier to eat more of it! Huge selection, well presented and delicious I was impressed! There are rest areas for adults here and there as well. The gift shop in the lobby is delightful too. The hotel interior isnt old at all, looks pretty new and spruced up. The Japanese room for 5 of us wasnt as spacious as the others we had stayed at but it was fine - clean and well provided. Yukata was so soft and comfy. Welcome sweets with mascot demon was a nice touch and free Suntory mineral water in the fridge was nice. Futons were a little thin but there r extras in the cupboard so just put one under your futon and problem solved. Its located at the end of the main shopping street so probably a leisurely 15 minute walk to HellsValley entrance.

Nothing to shout about, reprimanded by staff constantly

We stayed here for 2 nights, my family of 5, in one of the traditional Japanese rooms on the 11th floor. Rooms are clean and functional. Breakfast spread is extensive, so is the dinner buffet, until you realize that 80% of the items are same! So we had the same food 4 times in the 48 hours. Not ideal. The onsen facilities are good, but I have been to better ones. What I didnt like about this place is how rigid / inflexible they were. I wanted to fill up my babys thermos flask with hot water from the dispenser during breakfast. I was told off. That dispenser is meant for cups only. So fine, I used a cup and then poured the water into my thermos. Nope that wasnt acceptable either. My daughter wanted to use a desert bowl for the soft scoop ice cream so that she could add some fruit toppings. Nope that wasnt allowed. The standard issue ice cream cups were tiny and made of plastic. What is wrong with using 1 washable bowl instead of using 5 small plastic cups? So much for being eco friendly. My husband wanted to use the glasses provided in our bedrooms in the shared chill-out lounge on the evenings instead of using the paper cups that were provided in the lobbys. Nope that wasnt allowed. You had to use the paper cups. Like what???!! What is with all these rules, and the lack of thought or flexibility when enforcing them?! I will not be back, thats for sure.

Very big hotel. Big room. Nice Onsen. Near restaurants

This is a huge hotel with a very big onsen area. Near to Restaurants. Breakfast spread is very goood with all kinds of food. Rooms are nice and big with a lot of space. Also close to attractions. Parking is up the hill though.

    Grim relic from the 1970s

The building has seen better days, and to say its shabby and outdated is an understatement. Its gloomy and grim throughout. The only concession to the 21st century is an internet connection. The bed with its sharp springs poking through is one of the most uncomfortable Ive ever had to sleep on. I presume that in the 1960s or 70s it was in the cheap-and-cheerful category, but now its neither. The only dinner they have on offer is a 3,000 yen buffet which is worth about 1,000 yen at most. (All restaurants in the town are still closed due to Covid.) Id booked for two nights, but checked out after one. Noboribetsu Onsen itself is a charmless, concrete place appealing mainly to the Japanese over-70s, but if you do decide to come here, try a different lodging.
