Manorhaus LlangollenJust stayed here for one night, as we had previously read from reviews the check in time is very strict which is absolutely fine we are polite people who respect rules, we arrived at Manorhaus at 2:50 (check in time was 3:00) but as we had arrived in Llangollen a few hours earlier and our parking ticket was due to expire so hoped 5-10mins earlier would be fine to get the parking permit but the door was locked and no answer so we politely sat down outside and waited for exactly 3pm. Once 3:00 on the dot arrived we politely tapped the door and the owner opened it with a clipboard in hand and very formal, unfortunately we felt a bit like we had disturbed him and felt unwelcome despite it being now the official check in time. We were given the parking permit which is a good perk and shown to the room etc, it was very lovely with a separate small living room area and a separate bath and wet room. It had been nicely designed overall but being honest and fair the room did appear a bit tired looking and uncared for in many places (lots of dust on tv and headboard in bedroom, some stains on bedding, cracked wall tiles in the bathroom under mirror, grim in shower area, cheap looking split wood covering back window, carpets needed cleaning, sofa also needed cleaning as lots of dirty marks, outside area needs some maintenance as full of weeds, broken tiles on the floor and very poor quality outside furniture, strong smell of damp on the ground floor inside) without a doubt this place would have been fabulous when it first opened but as with anything over the years things get worn and used. To charge the higher end of accommodation in Llangollen as Manorhaus do these issues and conditions do need to be addressed and improved. Location wise its right in the centre of Llangollen and everything walkable. We didnt use the hot tub or see it so cant comment on it, and didnt have the additional £10 each extra for breakfast.

Passing ThroughLovely B&B in great location in the middle of town. Great building that has been renovated in to a modern look and feel. We only stayed one night but thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Spacious room with a great bathroom setup. All very clean and tidy and the parking permit is a great bonus. Staff were friendly and accommodating - would happily stay again.

Second visit to this lovely boutique hotelMy wife and I stayed at this hotel a few years ago after it was first renovated. On that occasion, we had dinner bed and breakfast and it was truly 5 star. On our second visit, we found the manager very welcoming, room was comfortable, but the wow factor is not what it used to be. The attention to detail in the decor and general presentation of the hotel has not been maintained over the years. There was no evening dining option in the hotel, but the manage recommended some great local restaurants. There was no bar service in the hotel. The room was warm and comfortable and everthing in the room was spotlessly clean. Bathroom has some cracked tiles and toilet flush need improving. One of the attraction of the hotel is the rooftop jacuzzi, which can be privately booked for an hour (£15 including prosecco). The view from the jacuzzi over the castle is amazing, and the water is piping hot. The general area of the jacuzzi was full of leaves, and needed a good tidying. The inside of the jacuzzi felt slimy, as if it needed a deep drain and cleaning. Breakfast was good quality, but the menu was limited for vegans, with no dairy free spread available. I cant help thinking that a few years ago, the hotel would have kept up with current trends and perhaps offered more in the way of options. Soya milk was available and the manager was as helpful as he could be with resources available. Our trip was out of season, so maybe it is the nature of the trade that the hotel seems to be ticking over rather than a thriving business. The standard of our previous visit was very high, so perhaps I am a little more critical than if this had been my first time at Manorhaus. Despite the hotel not living up to my memory, I would definitely still recommend staying here. It is in a great location, view from the hot tub is spectacular, rooms are clean and staff are welcoming. Parking is free with a permit from the hotel and the hotel is good value for money.

Good enough but definitely not 5 starWe stayed recently for our anniversary weekend. We are not usually picky or ones to complain but unfortunately the stay didn't meet expectations/previous reviews. Good points- great location, nice views and spacious rooms. Negatives - I'm sure that this hotel was great when first renovated. However it is now very tired looking. It smelt of damp as we entered the building, peeling wallpaper in places, plus really awful damp smell in our bathroom with black mould in the corners and stained ceiling. The room had thin walls and we could hear every movement above us and snoring to the sides.... Not the hotels fault but worth considering if you're a light sleeper.... We raised these concerns to be told repeatedly they were fully booked (no apology or suggestion from them of how to rectify) Breakfast was OK, not worth the money. No gluten free/non dairy substitutes which I appreciate I didn't flag up beforehand , but most places these days have something in, plus at 5 star rating, I'd expect a bit more choice (there is an amazing surf cafe that does great breakfasts with a view of the river) . The staff are polite but rather formal and it was a slightly awkward feeling check in.... Can't be helped but didn't add to the overall experience. Overall for what we paid and the fact it was our anniversary, hence hoping for a little luxury, it didn't meet expectations....and is no way near the 5 star boutique description.

A beautiful boutique hotelStayed at the Manorhaus for 1 night recently and honestly could not fault it. We were met by Alan, who took our bags in for us whilst we went to park the car. The small car park next to the hotel was full so Alan directed us to a larger car park just a couple of minutes' walk away and were still able to use the complimentary parking permit. We were given a tour of the bar and dining room and asked if we'd like to add breakfast at an additional cost of £10pp. After reading some of the reviews on here I was a little worried about what we would get for £10, but I have to say that it was amazing. A full Welsh breakfast (2 slices of bacon, 2 sausage, mushrooms, 2 rounds of toast and the best poached eggs I've ever had) fresh juice, tea / coffee and cereal. There was also a menu with options such as Eggs Benedict and porridge. The room itself was spotlessly clean and had a shower (wetroom) as well as a full sized bath. There was also complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits and bottled water. The hotel is in the middle of everything, and there are pubs, restaurants, shops and cafes in abundance. An excellent location for exploring the town and also the surrounding area (it's perfect for hikers). Check-in and out times are generous given this is a b&b and not a Travelodge, and the hospitality received was spot on. I'd definitely stay here again.
