Warm and comfyThis hotel was central to everywhere we went and was very warm. Despite the minus 30 degrees Celsius temperature outside we were so warm inside that we actually opened the window a little! Right next door was St Sophia square, Pedestrian street was close by and there was even an indoor food market that was worth a look. We breakfasted there on our first day with corn cobs, steamed dumplings and other tasty things. There was loads of interesting food to look at, although pretty typical of most local markets if you live in China as we do. The concierge helped us to arrange tickets and a driver to take us to the ice park at a reasonable price for our group of 7. PS. Make sure you have toilet paper in your room when you arrive. It's fairly common to have to ask for it in Chinese hotels, somehow its frequently not put in the rooms by housekeeping...so be sure to ask before you need it!!

Excellent location and nice modern roomStayed in Manhattan hotel on my 2 nights visit to Harbin. The hotel is nicely located just across the road from Sophia Church and 15 mins walk away from Zhong Yang Street (the famous shopping street) and Zhaolin Park. There are plenty of eateries nearby so you will not go hungry. We booked the standard double room and it can easily fit 4 person. There is a minimart near the entrance where you can get water, soft drinks and snacks. Room is reasonably clean with clean sheets and towels. 2 bathrobes and 2 pair of slippers provided (can request for more). it is impossible to expect 100% clean carpet because sand + snow = muddy slush. The room is equipped with a electronic safe (had some problem due to lack of batteries that was quickly remedied), blow dryer (we got a spoil one but got a replacement easily), mini fridge (conveniently empty but we did not utilize it) and TV with mainly chinese channels. Shampoo and bath gel is provided, also toothbrush, comb and hair cover. there is a plastic can full of toiletries, please note that you have to pay for them (35 yuan if I am not mistaken). There are bottles of soft drinks near the TV, also chargeable. The room came with standing shower and the major complaint is the water temperature. It is impossible for the bath water to stay warm. basically the water temperature will fluctuate between scalding hot and warm or freezing cold and warm every 5 seconds. The bed is hard (normal standard for hotels in China). 2 free sockets to charged your electronics (type A and type O with 3 prong). So make sure to bring your travel adapter. Free in-room WIFI. Free breakfast leave much to be desired. The dining room is chilly so the food turn cold very fast. They serve mainly local dishes to serve mainly Chinese Clientele. The wife is a native speaker so we did not encounter any communication issue. But I believe non-chinese speaking guests may encounter problem communicating coz most of the staff don't speak English. There is a travel agency near the hotel reception. We actually booked a trip to the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival from there. They provide transport and entrance ticket for 300 Yuan per pax. They actually forgot about us and we missed the transport, so they arranged alternative transport (a private car) for us but we ended up waiting for around 1 hour for the car to arrive and we have to look for the contact at the festival to get our tickets. Not a pleasant experience. overall we enjoyed our stay in Manhattan Hotel (other than the fluctuating bath water temperature) and will not hesitate to stay there again in the future.

Basic hotel, great value, great locationWe are very happy with our experience at this hotel and would recommend it. While pretty basic (no bells and whistles) the rooms are large and heated well (floor heating..important in -22 degree celsius weather). A breakfast buffet is included in our room price, and we're really happy with it. It's a Chinese breakfast buffet, so just keep that in mind if you're not used to traveling in China (this means buns, dumplings, fried rice, noodles, etc.). The location is great as our room overlooks the Sophia Cathedral. When it was clear, we could see Zhaolin park lit up and the river further north. Within walking distance of both of those things, as well as the old street. Overall, very happy, especially for what we paid for.

dishonest receptionLocation is good; besides the Sophia Cathedral . Rooms are decent but it is all downhill from there. Rooms are all smoking even if you ask for non-smoking. My "non-smoking" room actually had ashtrays . Breakfast is very poor even by Chinese standards. The capacity of the dining room is too small and you have to wait a long time for a table. The reception is very slow. Think 30-45 min for check-in /out. What is worse is that they are dishonest and will overcharge you for whatever they can. They charged $10 for a lost room card and overcharged me $60 for my room which I only discovered much later. There are many hotels in Harbin and I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel.

Harbin ice festivalHotel was lacking cleanliness and quality. Bed was Hard as a rock, bed linen looked dingy and didnt smell fresh, room showing lots of wear, odor of smoke in the non smoking room, even had an ash tray in the room, carpet stained, no shower curtain or door to keep water from splashing, no temperature control, was hot as hell and had to keep the windows open to sleep, breakfast food was limited choices for any western style foods with mostly Chinese dishes, food lacked quality and taste. On the positive side They do provide toiletries and wash cloths. Towels were clean and smelled fresh. Tolerable for a night or two, but dont come with high expectations.
