  Mammoth Camping

  Pros- great open area for star gazing, flush toilets, close to the village (food/showers) Cons- lots of road noise if you stay near the entrance/exits, no dishwashing station Overall, we enjoyed it. If you get a camp site in the NP you shouldnt complain because some people dont get one!

  Amazing views, with great facilities

  We stayed here this summer without a reservation, we just showed up and got a spot. We truly enjoyed this experience, the campground had friendly informative staff, amply facilities, great firewood, bathroom and water. It is located close to Mammoth hot springs town, and right across the highway from the campground is an amazing hill that you can climb for outstanding views. This area was quiet chilly in August so bring warm layers.

  Good place to stay, not so crowded

  I was there one week from July the 1st 2018 (top season). First come first serve basis - if you come till 9 a.m. you have a good chance to get a spot. A little bit loud (surrounded by a road), but a convenient place - walkable distance to Mammoth town, showers can be taken in the Mammoth hotel. Open air presentations by rangers almost every evening (different topics, Yellowstone nature), really cool. Even though the campground is on the north side of Yellowstone, basically all the places are in a reasonable distance by car (commuted every day). I can recommend this place.

  Crowded at Mammoth

  This camp was crowded and difficult to get a site at. Facilities very average too. We needed to drive a further hour down to another camp to get a spot. Mammoth is also very touristy with lots of people wandering about kind of aimlessly.

  Winter Camping at Mammoth

  Just a heads up for Winter Campers...the park does not clear the tent pads of snow. Was there from 03/02/21 to 03/05/21 and some, not all, of the pull thrus for vehicles were plowed, but none of the tent pads had been cleared. Bring a shovel or perhaps snowshoes to pack the snow or be prepared to setup your tent on snow with snow stakes or deadman stakes. Otherwise, great campground with no concerns.
