Heaven on earthHeaven on earth We (myself, my wife and 19y old son) were on holiday in Kenya from August 12th till September 1th 2016. We started off with a beautiful and varied 10-day (safari)tour to Samburu National Park, Lake Baringo and Masai Mara National Park, perfectly guided by our friend Jean-Pierre De Busschere. We can recommend anyone strongly to travel with him. Subsequently, we stayed at the Maisha Tamu in Malindi from August 21th till August 31th 2016. We truly had an excellent time in this small but splendid resort in which we were treated like kings and queens from the first till the last minute of our journey. The resort is situated at Ngowe Road, in a quiet part of Malindi, only a 15 minutes walk from the beach and from centre of village (you can also travel with tuktuk (very cheap)). In our opinion, its always a better choice than the more busy and big resorts in the centre of village or at the beach. At arrival we were offered a refreshing cocktail as well as a tour by car to get a first look at the village of Malindi. Thanks to our guide we were lucky to stay in a private house which includes two very large and tastefully decorated rooms (deluxe and junior suite rooms), with their own bathrooms, and a huge covered terrace. Warning: once you lay down in one of the two big sofa beds on this terrace, with a view on the lush and tropical garden and your own private pool, you might as well never get out of it for the rest of the day There is another main swimming pool but as there are only a few rooms in this resort, we found it as private as our private pool. The (few) buildings in this resort are featured by the use of natural materials. Meals are served in a covered outhouse, also with nice view on gardens and pool. Quality of food and drinks is excellent and during day you can order anything you want for lunch or dinner, manager and staff will get it for you (breakfast is included). Besides high quality amenities, cleanliness of the accommodation (rooms as well as gardens), the priceless quietness and peacefulness of this secluded place, we want to emphasise the unbelievable friendliness and servitude of staff. In particular, we want to thank the (Italian) manager Fedele for fulfilling all of our wishes and Clarice for taking care of us as if she was our mother. As Kenya is a huge country with so many more fantastic places to explore, we hope to come back to this resort as soon as possible. We recommend very strongly.

A really wonderful and quiet placeMaisha Tamu is the place where you can just sit or lie on one of the many swahili beds and shut everything out except the murmur of the cool breeze on the leaves. The lawns are so picturesque they are like a postcard and the best thing, we had the place to ourselves. It is that place where you want to go to relax and just let Ms. Clarise pamper you - she is a gem. I promise you by the time you leave, you will be completely rejuvenated.

Lovely! We stayed at Maisha Tamu for three nights - it was lovely! We were pleased with everything from the airport transfer and warm welcome upon arrival, to the spacious rooms and brilliant service throughout our stay. The owner, Mr. Fidel, was very accommodating, and ever so friendly. The atmosphere at Maisha Tamu was very relaxed, allowing guests to request whatever they desire for lunch/dinner, swim through the night and basically enjoy a home away from home experience.

DisapointingOur start to staying at Maisha Tamu was not good. After being assured we would have a transfer waiting to pick us up from the airport it did not arrive. We caught a taxi to the accommodation. On our arrival at 12.30 we asked about lunch. We waited until 3.30pm & then got beef & a mountain of chips. The food at the resort was very poor quality. They only had nescafe coffee. When we asked for soft drink they could only find obe bottle of lemonade that we share. Beer was not kept in the fridge & had to be planned for in advance. In saying this I believe it is the managements fault that the cook was not aware of what is required. I feel that the cook is not supported with training by the management. It is the worst food I have ever experienced in my many years of travel. The previous reviews were the complete opposite of what we experienced. I The resort is lovely. It is well maintained and very clean. The pools are sparkling. The staff were lovely & tried very hard to make our stay pleasant. I have only praise for the staff. The was no manager or owner there & therefore no vehicles to take us anywhere or to do airport transfers. We had to hire a vehicle to look at the places of interest. I have never written a bad review before & feel sad about this but feel that it needs to be said.
