Perfect host made the stay in beauitful surroundingsAs you approach Mairood resort you walk through a lovely, authentic fishing village, the likes of which are packed with tourists in other places of Thailand we have been to. On arrival we were greeted by the lovely host Chin, who lives in Thailand during the winter and in the US in the summer months. Chin has a big heart for lost fauna, hence the resort is full of animals, birds, dogs - and a 1/4-ton pig. The bungalows all have A/C and patios, the grounds of the resort are vast with several sitting groups. There is no beach in frony of the resort, but a 10 min walk takes you to beauitful deserted beaches. Literally deserted, we saw no-one. This is hard to come by in peak season-Thailand nowadays. Chin has bikes that takes you in the other direction with even more stunning and deserted beaches. Chin makes great food and has a big heart and many stories to tell. Chin and his staff took us to a local village-party where 5 pale farangs made the day for a cheering crowd:) This is a perfect place for relaxation in itself and a perfect location stopover to/from Cambodia - it's only 30 km to the border. I recommend a stay on Mairood Resort with all my heart.

Very interesting placeThis is a three star facility and it doesnt have the traditional features associated with a four star hotel. There are no waterfalls in the lobby and in fact there is no lobby. There is no concierge, a taxi rank, a gym or other such features. But I give it four stars because of the five star owner, host , cook, raconteur, world traveler and chief man here Mr Chin and his always helpful staff including Khun Praset. The food also is five star. MrChin ran restaurants in America for many years and it shows in the nightly specials featuring fish from the locals. Khun Praset worked for many years in five star establishments and knows his business. There is no menu but you will be asked if you want anything special. Dont bother. They will prepare one delicious dish after the other. This place may not suit all tastes. The rooms are spotless but somewhat dated. The pool could use more comfortable lounges. And this is not on the beach. But it does have a small aviary with colorful tropical birds, lush foliage throughout ,a well stocked fish pond and YaYa a most unusual pet pig. If you want a few quiet days in a friendly atmosphere then give this place a go. And dont be put off by the walk from the secure car park to the resort. Its not all that far and you will get a glimpse of a genuine fishing village through which you must proceed unless you arrive by boat, that is. We will return.

Fabulous ExperienceThis resort is miles from any town of size (close to the Cambodian border) and is all the better for it. Mairood Resort, reached through a simple Thai/Cambodian Refugee fishing village, oozes jungle charm. It is restful, seductive and addictive. Chin, the owner, is the perfect host, in fact, we changed our holiday itinery to make sure he was there during our stay. And we were not disappointed. Chin is a raconteur par excellence, and he has some tales to tell. The staff are efficient and friendly and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The food is excellent. There are animals everywhere from super friendly dogs to YaYa the quarter tonne pot bellied vietnamese pig (who know they grew so large) and birds galore. My husband even got involved in a wild goose chase whilst we were there... We loved it. We had what we called the' Presidential Suite' which was traditionally furnished and well designed. There's a beach, a scooter ride away, where we enjoyed swimming and eating the some of the best food we had in Thailand, though it not geared up for non Thai tourists. Mairood is an adventure, one that we are really glad to have experienced. We'll be back,

ParadiseMairood is a genuine paradise in the original Persian sense - a lush garden with pools of fish, aviaries of exotic birds and one vietnamese pot bellied pig called Yaya. Owner Chin also has a collection of about 15 dogs (many rescued to prevent them being eaten). The resort is hidden away in the middle of a fishing village mainly populated by Cambodian refugees (right on the Cambodian border). Accessible by narrow walkways over the Khlong. Chin, who has also run an establishment in Nantucket for years, keeps Mairood up to US standards of service and quality. The staff are lovely. The food is fantastic. And Mr Chin, apart from his culinary abilities, is a wonderful host and raconteur (such great gossip!). Apart from a couple of beaches you are near nothing. The perfect place to escape the world and chill. Which we did. A genuine original.

Quiet Calm HideawayThis secluded private ocean side property hides on a coastal islet which has to be reached by a short walk through a quaint fishing village which probably hasn't changed much in a hundred years. My wife & I enjoyed strolling around the village daily to watch all the activity going on. You then enter the property surrounded by tall palm trees and dense mangrove jungle and can forget the whole world exists outside. The Thai style bungalows are comfortable and private with good aircon, surrounding a secluded pool. For a quiet eco-friendly relaxation break away from it all this place absolutely fits the bill. What makes it exceptional is the host Chin, a friendly Thai gentleman with fluent English and extensive overseas experience and his fabulous on-site Thai restaurant, cooking fresh local produce and seafood to surpass guest's every request..! We didn't want to leave..
