Memories That Will Last A LifetimeWe stayed at Mai Dive for eight glorious nights. Our Bure was only just a few steps from the beach. It was well appointed with a comfy bed. Plenty of hot water in the shower and the room was serviced each day. Really loved not having any issues with water. The resorts water comes from a natural spring in the mountains behind and tastes awesome. The staff are so welcoming and friendly and do everything to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The meals created by chef Tom were nothing short of outstanding. A wide variety of dishes that were beautifully presented and which tasted fantastic. We were at Mai Dive primarily to go diving. Maika, our dive master took us to a variety of dive sites throughout our stay. Everyone of which were fabulous. My husband and I have dived all over the world and must say that the Astrolabe Reef has given some of the best diving we have ever had. The corals are not damaged either by tourists, rough seas or climate change. The colours of the corals are brilliant . The caves and swim throughs are so much fun. We also went snorkelling with mantas on one occasion which was fantastic. They are such majestic creatures. In the afternoon we either went for a walk or had a swim. On a couple occasions we took the kayaks out and paddled to a deserted beach. So many wonderful memories. I must say we will be back for sure next year for another great adventure.

Remote location, Lovely People, Good DivingIt took some doing to get to Ono Island but after the 99 minute boat ride from Kadavu airport we arrived at this very simple resort in a remote location. With Coco Palms and steep green hillsides as the backdrop, we saw the 7 or 8 small wooden structures that make up the resort. The boat crew jumped out into the water and carried our suitcases to our bure. The first one didn't;t work out for us so they cheerfully moved us to Bure 5 which is the best one in my opinion. The food at Mai Dive was really good. Our lunches and dinners were very nice. We had fresh fish several times and the best lobster that we have ever eaten one special night. They also did a lovo feast one evening with kava and guitars and singing and fish cooked in the earth. It was also our 34th anniversary and they baked us a cake and set up a special room for us that was decorated with flowers. It was so sweet! We were the only divers the week we were there which was heavenly. We did 10 dives. No nitrox. Joebie the skipper was terrific and Stone and Mikey (?) the second dive master, were both really good. The diving is so very different from other places in Fiji. It is mostly hard corals. and the palette is very autumnal with mushroom shapes and interesting hardscapes. There weren't many fish at the nearby sites, but we enjoyed the many swim throughs and ledge caves etc. However we did a full day to the Northern sites and we saw 9 sharks during 3 dives and many more schools of fish. It was a great contrast to the Rainbow Reef with it's soft corals. The staff is really nice, they are all one big family (or mostly) and it was lovely to be there. Very relaxing. I wouldn't suggest it for non-divers although I guess you could spend your time snorkeling, I think it is really a good place for serious divers. I loved the dive boat, the Alacrity, very staple with a great ladder. We did try to snorkel with the mantas twice, but they didn't show. But the one afternoon we were diving, the other couple at the resort was able to snorkel with a large one. Luck of the draw. I cried when they saw us the Fijian Farewell song, we had a lovely time.

A jewel right next to the Astrolabe ReefThsi is the place for a relaxing stay, for snorkelling or diving beautiful waters filled with stunning coral and colourful fish, for a friendly and smiley service with good food.Me and my friend stayed for 4 nights, snorkelled, kayaked and swam and felt like in heaven. Definitely worth the stay for nature lovers. Will be back as genuine spots like this are rare and precious!

Snorkelers paradiseWe loved Mai Dive. Partly the location: gorgeous, quiet, remote island inlet backed by a steep hill on one side and sparkling turquoise waters in front. Partly the setup: wonderful little bure, steps from the beach, that easily accommodated our family of four with clean and comfortable beds with mosquito nets, a small porch, and outdoor shower enclosed in bamboo. But mostly the people and experience. In our week at Mai Dive there were at most 9 guests including our family of 4. We all spent days together -- dining, diving/snorkeling, and taking part in waterfall hike and visit to a local village school (we brought some school supplies and other NZ guests brought a rugby ball and soccer ball which were in use on the pitch within seconds!). The Mai Dive staff take you in, and send you off, like family. Everyone is on a first-name basis. We particularly enjoyed the Friday evening lovo and kava ceremony, which then ended with a celebration of our wedding anniversary complete with a terrific chocolate cake. (And we can corroborate the other reviews that the dining was first class throughout. You just tell them before you arrive what you do/do not like, and all the meals are planned around your tastes... as difficult as that can be with a family of picky eaters/children/vegetarians.) Unlike many outfits, Mai Dive do not treat snorkelers as a second thought. In fact we snorkelers outnumbered divers for our time there, and the snorkeling was sublime with trips out to multiple locations, healthy coral, and variety of sea life including banded sea kraits, white tip reef sharks, turtles, and finally (on our last day) giant mantas. You can snorkel right out in front of the resort or paddle a kayak to secluded beaches. A holiday we will never forget. Vinaka Mai Dive!

Paradise FoundStayed for one glorious week on a dive package. So quiet and peaceful setting - no cars or noise except for the gentle waves. Beautiful sunrises each morning. Staff members are the best! Maika the divemaster, Jobilisi the boat driver, kitchen staff Koletta, Ruci and Ame and JoAnne the manager all go out of their way to make sure you are well taken care of. The lovo on Friday night was a highlight, but all meals were delicious and plentiful. Diving experience was very good, excellent swim-throughs and corals! Giant manta-rays snorkel was awesome!
