Tener mucho cuidado

Think before you book at Mahalini 4

We were looking forward to our short stay (5 nights) at this small and simple villa complex. We already heard a little about it and it came fairly well recommended. Our experience however has been nothing less than horrible. Stay away from this place at all costs. Our first night we arrived late at night and the staff helped us to our room. After getting ready for a shower and bed we discovered that there was no hot water for a bath. We brought our 10 month old daughter with us and to have no hot water to bath her was frustrating. I poured a basin from the hot water bottle and we used that. The next day the manager told me the gas tank was empty (we had booked in advance and they knew we were coming). He didn't apologize, he just said they would bring a new one. Mosquitos and ants are a large feature at Mahalini 4. So be prepared to have your bedroom fill with ants each night unless you spray poison all over the floor (which you will have to ask for, because no repellants, zappers, sprays are found in the rooms). We had our bags full of ants the first night we arrived (in our bedroom) and learned to keep everything up off the floor. The mosquitos bit my wife and my baby horribly and each had dozens of bites by the first morning. We used our own repellant but by the second day I was telling the manager that we were being eaten alive. He expressed no sympathy but instead told me "it's funny, because I offered you (us) repellent and mozzy coils and I needed only to have come and asked for them." This was untrue. He offered to let me take the ant spray and some cookware when I asked. He didn't offer mozzy coils. I told him I didn't think it was funny at all. Again, no apology from the manager, no caring attitude at all. We were starting to dislike Mahalini now. The fourth night we woke at around 4:30am to a scorching hot bedroom. The lights were off, the AC was not running. The power was out and nothing worked. Plumbing, tapwater, toilets and all electricity was out. But only in our villa. I checked the meter to find an electronic reading that said "Credit 0". Meaning that the manager had not only not had a fresh gas tank for hot water ready, but had also not topped up credits to the power company that our villa might have any electricity or running water. I woke up the staff and they immediately knew the credit was zero and someone left on a scooter to top it up. Angry at this, I asked the manager why we had no power and he repeated what I knew already, when I asked him how could this happen, he actually told me it was nothing, that it was reasonable for such problems to happen to us because we got a good price on the room. Telling me basically that due to us not paying slightly more we should not complain that we had no power or water. He also complained that he needed to top up the credit with his own money. No, he did not apologize or show any care at all at our discomfort. He offered another room temporarily but I didn't accept as my baby was asleep and we didn't want to wake her. The manager said that my sister (who got me this booking, and who has sent many guests to Mahalini 4 on good faith, - my sister 'would understand'. I said that she would not understand. I was correct. We had nicely been told that the staff purchased a cot for our baby to sleep in. Which they had (a bassinet). And yes, unfortunately it was for a newborn, so completely useless for a ten month old girl so she slept with us each night. But it was nice that they tried, and we in return brought bedding and a bath to leave as a donation. The manager later tried to politely extort money from me because he had after all paid for this cot for us, and that we were expected to donate more. Mahalini is a pretty little villa in a good part of Bali, there is a good store directly opposite, but the store's cafe has a band many nights a week which play extremely loud music. This will bother people who sleep early. The pool is nice but very warm and so not relaxing at all on a hot day. The staff, with the exception of the manager are friendly and helpful, the price is low and can be negotiated. I strongly suggest that you DO NOT STAY AT MAHALINI 4!! Oh, and my sister and mother personally picked the villa room they wanted my wife and I to stay in. It was booked, and no, it was not the one we were given. We were given the no hot water, no power and no bug repellant room. Nightmares are more comfortable than our stay. 0 / 5

Don't expect too much! But it is enjoyable

We have been staying here since 2010. In the private pool villas.. We only use one room and use the kitchen frequently. It will be less than you expect, but a firm hand will have lawns cut, curtains and nets washed and anything else that needs to be done. I believe there is new management since last September and I will be interested to see if the are any changes this September. It is a place to go if you just want to relax and read without the high expectations of a resort. Plenty of resteraunts in the street and close enough to walk to Legian st and the beach. Opposite Bali Deli, which does have good food, pastries and music on some nights. It can be a little loud, but it's not too bad. Usually Jazz. We are returning again this year!

    Ive seen better dive bars

In the world of travel, there is a fine line between budget hotel and precipice of hell....in seminyak you will find the very centre of hell known as mahalini villas. My girlfriend found this place after I lacked the funds to acquire a previous property in Ubud, seminyak is a great location so I thought no issue, and it was pay when we got there so even better, the pictures made it look nice But oh how a picture can tell a thousand words. We arrived to find ants, filthy toilet, disgusting kitchen, kettle with white goo inside, utensils that had cockroaches and a shower not fit for a horse and a bed with stains. There was also no laundry facilities and a front desk manned by someone whose English for a tourist hotspot is poor.....Ill give him lessons Im a teacher.....the single spare bedroom looked like a prison cell and the reception for the tv was appalling Oh but the best is yet to come, we had arranged airport transport and on booking.com this was free....however in reality it was not. It was 25 US dollar for the trouble and not only did the manager not have appropriate currency to change....he also ripped her off.....the actions of opening night and the discoveries we made did threaten to ruin or trip (I have a goal which is to make the lady happy and no one will dare stop me) The one pro is the underused pool, I did enjoy a late night swim. Iga bagus suarma the manager is a weasel, he is a snake like figure who Im sure sheds skin for different seasons. We were told that paying for the villa in dollars was fine.....but nooooo.....I had to use a dodgy money vender and carry around 12 million rupiah He is a man lacking in class, decorum and general customer service.....I got a vibe within 10 minutes that maybe he was a shady character....theres simply no need to Big up your property.....if its good let it speak for itself....but no he was trying to sell it as a palace......Ive stayed in better places in Blackpool and thats an awful place The staff are helpful and seriously underpaid so they deserved their tip.....and a better job. We plan on coming back to Bali but we will never use mahalini ever again Josh Also....clean Mother Nature out of your swimming pool

Very dirty & manager a snake

My partner and I had the worst experience at this villa. I would 100% recommend that no one stay at this place. It was disgustingly filthy with hair covering the bathroom sink upon arrival, bathroom mirror covered with toothpaste splatters, floor not cleaned, dirt on kitchen benches. We had book this room weeks in advance so they New we were coming however there were no towels at all in our villa so when we arrived at 4am off our flight we couldnt even have a shower before going to bed. Dont even get me started on the manager Bagus he is a filthy snake of a human who will trick you in anyway possible to get money out of you. I had booked online through their website and paid over the site using my credit card. When we arrive at 4am he was trying to tell me we had not paid and that I mustve booked and paid to another villa? If this was the case how did he know my name and my reservation? For days he was trying to battle us to pay again and the amount he was trying to make us pay again was double what was advertised. He tricked us into going on tours with him charging us for everything. He would say I will take you to the best breakfast place in Bali and then he would order a large meal drink etc and make us pay for it? He is so pushy always coming to your villa trying to sell these tours to you and he will let himself in and come and sit on your couch in your villa and will not leave until you agree to go with him on one of his tours. We now are at a different set of villas which are impeccable. We will never ever stay here again and I will tell anyone and everyone I know to never stay here. He ruined my first impression of Bali for me thats for sure.
