A very nice surprise and 5 day holidayFirst we have to compliment the new owners on the changes made since our last visit about a year ago. Firstly the TLC & basic maintenance have started and the effort is highly visible. That was our main concern during our last visit. Then the new menu on offer was quite a surprise and even more the return of Horst the beloved Chef of years past. I would recommend you have him serve a Steak Tartare made right at your table and served in person. Since we stayed close to a week we sampled most food on offer and can not fault any. The Norwegan Salmon was the best I ever had. On the down side I did not like the beef schnitzel, but then it was done perfectly , served with brown gravy I do not like in general. The staff was worried about the new menu as it was introduced at the time we arrived, but they were well trained in advance. As for the Staff, they are friendly, have a great sense of humour and are not in your way. This is a perfect getaway if you require a peaceful and restful holiday.

Magnificent settingThe Hotel is one of those strange establishments we find hidden in out of the way places in South Africa. Old world charm, great pub, stunning views. We spent three days relaxing and visiting the area and could not have chosen a better place. Staff are old school, polite, attentive and genuinely proud of their Hotel. It does have some faults. Bedrooms, while comfortable and clean, do need upgrading. Towels are past their sell by date. Menu is good but a bit pretentious. The manager, Jayden, went out of his way to ensure that our stay was enjoyable and promptly attended to the few minor hitches we encountered. Great place for a relaxing stay.

It's competentDoes almost nothing brilliantly, but nothing very badly either. Except for the view, and that is very good. Best ask for luxury room with balcony and valley view. Furniture sometimes dated. Clean enough, but could do better. Bathroom was OK, but a bit cold in winter. Shower overflowed onto tiles. Plenty of hot water. Food in restaurant is variable. We had one evening meal. It was OK, not unpleasant, but we ate out every other night. If there was nothing else nearby, we would have ate there again. It's just that nearby cafes and restaurants are very much better. Group of us had separate rooms, but also booked and shared a suite with a log fire, for group gatherings. That was great. Armed guards with dogs patrol the grounds at night. DO NOT leave windows open at night - when you are out - the monkeys get in to look for food, and trash the room. Balcony makes a great spot to sit and watch monkeys, baboons and birds.

It was Okay.Okay lets start off with the rooms the walls have various wet stains that have dried and then the bed beds are nice and comfy but weird lightly black spots on pillow... The only reason for a good rating is the view its is just amazing but overall the place just needs a little revamp.

Nice foodWe stayed in a nearby Guesthouse, and were recommended to have diner in this hotel. Apparently the [revious manager has returned as chef. Good advice. Nice service, nice menu, very well prepared and quite cheap. Lovely view from the canyon.
