    Very Disappointed

Booked a Spa Break for myself and my daughter for her 21st Birthday. Hotel is in a lovely setting, parking was ample. Covid measures in place and observed by guests and staff. We were told that we could check in at 2pm so I booked our treatments around that time so we could leave our cases in the room. On arrival we were told check in was 3pm and we had to take our cases down to the spa. When we went to the changing rooms half the lockers didn't work which then made us late for our first treatment and the staff had to come looking for us. Treatments were ok but nothing special, we had back massages and toe file and polish. Checked into our room which was a superior deluxe double double. Bathroom was a good size with a separate bath and shower. Room furniture looked a little tired. However, beds were extremely comfortable. We had a drink in the bar before getting ready for dinner. Evening meal was fantastic, service was great although wine was a bit pricey. We had an excellent nights sleep and went for breakfast at 9am which we were really looking forward to based on our evening experience in the restaurant. Breakfast was absolutely chaotic. We were given boxed cereals with milk. Only juice choice was Orange and we were not able to choose what cooked breakfast items we would like. We were just given a 'full' English breakfast which was or poor quality, plus toast arrived in a brown paper bag but the butter served with it came on a side plate. The toast was cold and soggy. It is understandable that a reduced menu would be served but I've stayed at other hotels where they offer you a choice of cooked items and juices rather than forcing you to have what they want to serve you. All in all this resort focuses on business travellers and golfers rather than the Spa. This meant that there was not a relaxing environment for two ladies, it felt more like a lads weekend away hotel. Would not recommend to any female friends.

    Mixed Bag Review

A party of 2 of us came here on 4th October 2020 for an overnight spa break we booked with spabreaks.com. It's in a beautiful location, the grounds and golf courses are beautiful and there are some fabulous views. We had booked a twin room, access to the pool on arrival, afternoon tea and our stay included dinner, bed, breakfast and spa treatments on the following morning. Pool area was very nice, no-one was in the pool when we were there, very clean and quite big. The sauna and ice room were closed, but this was due to the Covid19 precautions. After our swim we went to the bar area for our afternoon tea. The bar area was quite dirty, there were old food and crumbs down the sides of the arms on chairs and settees and dirt and food stuff on the floor, on the entrance to the bar there was an unsecured plastic strip on the floor that everyone kept tripping over. Service was very slow, despite there being very few customers, we had been told on check in to remain in our seats for Service and just raise our hand for attention. We did this several times and was completely ignored by the male serving staff, I had to shout to get his attention, as his head was permanently looking down. Afternoon Tea then arrived and it was very poor, we paid £27.50 for 2 of us and was absolutely not worth the money. Normal sliced bread, ham, tuna, cheese, egg sandwiches, the edges of the bread were crusty like it had been stood somewhere awhile. The scones were prepacked ones and the buns looked and tasted like they were frozen, with the scone came some cream and honey? I've never been presented with honey and cream for a scone? Needless to say we asked for jam and was presented with satchets of normal jam. It was very poor quality for the money. The male bar staff asked if everything had been OK, I said no it was a bit rubbish, he said nothing and walked off! Evening meal was a completely different story, lovely 3 course meal, beautifully cooked and the waiting staff were spot on, it was excellent thank you to all of them. Our room overlooked the car park, it was roomy, clean and the beds were super comfy and we had a great nights sleep. Some of the room needs attention and the picture shows a plug socket hanging off that looks dangerous to me! Breakfast was super disappointing, service was prompt, coffee was weak and horrible, I asked for a cooked breakfast, the quality of the products was poor, I was given bacon, sausage, beans, tomato and mushrooms with 2 white slices of toast, the food was overcooked and toast was cold. Substandard breakfast I would say. Onto the spa, this was beautiful, there was a fabulous calming relaxation room, the beauticians were fab and gave us some amazing treatments, completely worth the money and made up for the rubbish breakfast, thanks to the lovely girls in the Spa! Massively mixed bag of good and bad, we won't be going back.

    Spa was terrible.

Even with allowances for covid restrictions/issues it was well below par. No jacuzzi, one sauna out of order, one not turned on so just a pool and one working steam room. 2/6 showers werent out of order and only 1 of those had hot water. Showers were dirty and dated and staff were absent or generally unhelpful. Treatments were good though. If you pay for a spa day you dont expect this lack of facilities or quality.

    Very disappointed :(

We booked in on a spa break deal To start with the positives out treatments were before check in on arrival the receptionist was really helpful and let us check in early as our room was ready The spa treatment was lovely the staff were great and we really enjoyed it We didnt use the pool as our time was hours after the treatment but it all looked nice We spent the afternoon in Taporley as we tried to get a drink at the bar but there was literally no staff anywhere.. on arrival back to the hotel about 4pm there was a large group of men between 25-30 of them all drinking together on the bar area.. we were pretty shocked to see this as tier 2 restrictions are in place We went back to the bar about 30 mins later the men were heavily drinking, the reception staff tried to tell them to sit apart but they moved for a few mins then back again The issue is they literally took all the staffs attention getting a drink was really hard as they were running about after them We went to the restaurant and I was pretty shocked by the standard of food, we ordered beef and lamb and they look identical and didnt taste the best not what Id expect from a 4 star hotel.. Previous other review were totally spot on about the food We eventually gave up on being served for a drink after and headed back to the room only be be kept up all Night by shouting and doors slamming Not such a relaxing weekend after all!

Do not book here, pay more elsewhere

We booked via spa breaks for a golf and spa night away with my wifes 2 sister and brother with partners so 4 couples in total, we were all happy that COVID 19 restrictions were in place, us men were booked to play golf, spa breaks didnt give us the heads up that members comps would take priority in the morning and the earliest we could play was 12.25 with the sun setting at 4pm.. we managed 14 holes, 12 of which were good light the last two were a waste of time.. although it was advertised as unlimited golf for the night stay we couldnt get a slot on Sunday morning so unlimited golf was actually 12 holes so were were very disappointed. However thats not enough to not stay there, we new the golf would be limited as were were fighting tooth and nail to get an earlier tee time from Wednesday 2nd when the hotel opened.. Upon arrival at 11.30 me and my wife were told we couldnt check in until 2 which was fine, we wanted to have a bit to eat together before I played golf and she went of for her treatments.. was told the kitchen didnt open until 12.30... I was gutted as I was starving... aw well just one of those things so we just had a coffee and I then went off with the other guys to get changed golf in the hotel toilets :( at this point they were able to check us into the hotel room soo ok I left my wife at reception sorting this out, as I was leaving she was filling out a breakfast form and shouted to me we you want the usual sausages, egg ect I just say yes thanks as I left and went to play my limited amount of golf.. When the light had defeated us I made my way to the hotel room, the wife had said she had a lovely time in the spa and felt refreshed after her massage so that was pleasing, I asked what time our table was for the full English in the morning (as I had food on the brain) and she then pointed out oh its not a full English its actually a breakfast bap in the hotel room at 8 am... my initial reaction was along the lines of ffs.. wasnt happy.. Anyway we had an evening table booked for 7 pm and again I was overly excited for this as I was starving and had already made my mind up when I woke up that morning I was having steak (as I do everywhere I go as Im Not really adventurous at all).. whilst my wife was finishing getting ready i nipped outside for a cigarette and the bar was busy, not packed just a large group of 8 men in one area all drinking with no food and a couple of other tables with couples drinking with no food.. so was rather upset that we had been told we couldnt have an alcoholic drink until we were eating food.. Whilst I was there I asked where the restaurant was as we all had a reservation at 7pm.. the restaurant isnt open you will be in this bar and seating area.. as I looked around my heart sank as the tables were little round ones, the chairs were the low relaxing ones, not ideal for sitting down to have a nice meal with your loved one... so back upstairs with more disappointing new... When we all came down for food no tables were ready, we were made to sit on random tables and then asked to stand up whilst they put two round tables together for me and my wife along with sister and brother in law, then the other 4 were asked the same whilst they moved some tables... at this point there was around 6-9 tables of families or guest in the bar/dining area.. so wasnt as busy as I though it would be.. looking at the menus was easy steak was already a green tick.. albeit there was an £8 supplement charge which is no issue, pate for starter and sticky toffee pudding for desert, I was a excited.. and a drink was order to so the previous disappointment soon went.. FOR a second or 2!! Then the waiter came over with the worst news I am sorry but I know Im going to upset some of you BUT we have ran out of steak your joking me, the place isnt overly busy!! So at this point I had to look at the options on the menu.. oh boy what a load of crap.. mince and onion pie was the first one.. oh boy I was crushed and I know this stuff happens but I am fussy... there were a few disappointed.. on to desert, the sticky toffee pudding was not sticky it was just a sponge cake, the hotel didnt have custard so again some more disappointing news.. by this point I had lost the will to be there and me and the wife went to bed but not before paying our drinks bill for around £40 for 3 pints of becks and 3 single Malabu and cokes, and just before that when the tables were being cleared the waiter was asking my wife to pass plates over to him.. wtf!! The next morning we both woke up and I was starving and was trying to get motivated for this breakfast bap.. 8 am passed and nothing, eventually at 8.30 it turned up, we were just about to leave and go and get breakfast elsewhere and I wish we would have now, the coffee was awful, no spoons with the yogurt, the bap has sausage, egg, bacon and a burnt vegetable burger.. yes I said it a vegetable burger, the sausage didnt taste like sausages at all.. so we just left, I waited 15 minutes on reception to check out and pay for a sandwich my wife had after I left for golf yesterday and nobody came so we just left.. After leaving we were told by the other 3 couples that one of their breakfasts turned up half an hour late and the other 2 didnt even get breakfast delivered at all! In all very disappointed with the whole stay.. Im pretty sure I wont be swinging by there again
