  La ubicación compensa lo demás

  El hotel es sencillamente precioso y está ubicado en un entorno idílico, junto al tamesis y el precioso puente de Marlow. Es una buena base de operaciones para recorrer unos alrededores interesantes, con oxford cerca. El servicio es muy estirado y el hotel es en general caro.

  Big parking charge for guests who do not register their cars

  In early Decemember we had lunch at the Riverside resturant in the hotel. A week later I received a parking fine of £60 for 2 hours parking and learnt I should have registered the car on arrival. I remember checking the wall for notice there was none and did not see signs to ask guest to register their cars ( there was no staff at the entrance and saw a few chatting away amongst themselves as we approached the resturant ) . I have writtent to hotel was told I should have seen the signs and could appeal to UKPC. If I was not a hotel guest I would be happy to pay the fine. It is disappointing the the 4 star hotel is not willing to help guests who just want to enjoy their service and not thinking about parking charges.

  Parking fines for customers - terrible customer service

  We received 2 x £100 fines for using the customer car park when eating at the restaurant. At no time where we asked to register our vehicles by the staff. Which seems like a very basic common courtesy and should be standard process. Apparently there is a sign in reception. But we were eating in one of the outdoor pods and do not go into the main building. We contacted the hotel and were informed that there are signs in the car park and that "you are on your own" and "this is out of our hands". The appeals process with UKPC (UK Parking Controls) is horrible and very stressful. Their online reviews reviews suggest this is a disreputable company. Horrible experience and leaves a very poor impression of this hotel and the Macdonald chain.

  Much better second time around

  After a terrible experience the first time around, we revisited at the suggestion of the management. The room was lovely and the restaurant was exceptional value for money - delicious. Thee were still a few minor issues with the cleanliness of the room, which I am sure was because of the difficulty in servicing and maintaining a full complement of staff in difficult times. But we enjoyed our stay.

  From no wedding, to the best wedding

  My wife and I got married here in December 2020. We were due to get married on the 4th of April 2020 in a different venue however due to COVID this was not possible. After rearranging the wedding to the 12th December, 5 weeks before, our venue cancelled. Initially gutted, we started looking for alternative venues. Then came the Compleat Angler. Let me start by saying we wished we had our wedding here from the start. The scenery is beautiful, the location is second to none and the star of the show was our wedding planner Cristina. Although we only had a matter of weeks to pull this together, Cristina was flexible in organising both face-to-face and virtual tours. The virtual tours were even made available to family members including some who were abroad at the time, helping everyone to feel included. Cristina remained calm through our constant requests and updates; preparing mince pies for our guests on arrival; accommodating sparklers for after our meal; and organising roasted chestnuts and mulled wine to have into the evening. All these small details combined with her attention to detail, professionalism and bubbly personality contributed to the best day of our lives. We are both real foodies and for us the food was a really important element of the day. We can honestly say that every dish that came out exceeded our already high expectations. All of the canapés and courses were absolutely delicious. Every member of staff, from Cristina, to the receptionists, to the waiters, to Gavin the general manager, couldnt have made our journey, our stay and our day more wonderful. The way the team looked after us from start to finish will never be forgotten as they went above and beyond in every way. I know the entire wedding party thought the same. Our room (the Windsor Suite) made us feel like royalty and the whole experience has made us think of the Compleat Angler as a home away from home. We will continue to visit the hotel for as long as possible for our anniversary, as every time we visit we are flooded with nothing but happy memories. I also want to mention the boat trip down the river on the Kingfisher. Steve did an amazing job and made our day extra special. If youre having your wedding here, or if your just staying for the night, this is a must. Finally, to anyone planning a wedding during these uncertain times and beyond, we thoroughly recommend the Compleat Angler as no matter what the circumstance they will make it the day you have dreamt of. A huge thank you to the team, we cant wait to see you again.
