Disappointed in the Royal Safari RoomThe mansions are absolutely beautiful, and we loved the ambiance of the property. We were in town for a family reunion and booked the Royal Safari room for a four-night stay. However, if we ever stay here again, we will certainly book a different room. First off, the entry into the Royal Safari opens directly into the bathroom, which we found to be a bit odd and inconvenient. While the bathroom has a super fancy shower / sauna, the pedestal sink is not securely mounted (theres even a sign reminding visitors to not lean on the sink), and the toilet handle didnt work properly (it required constant jiggling to get the water to stop running). The fireplace mantle located near the sink was the only place to set toiletries that would typically be used at the sink. However, I ended up using the cubbies next to the bed and a small lighted makeup mirror that was provided as my makeup area. The lighting in the bathroom was very dim, so forget about trying to shave or apply makeup in this room. The sitting room / bedroom is very spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. However, the website stated there was a dressing table. I guess they were referring to a large dresser on which a large flat screen TV sat. My idea of a dressing table would include a mirror with good lighting. There was no place to hang clothes, so we ran out to Walmart to purchase some hangers and used the standing lamps as hanging rods. This, of course, didnt exactly make the room feel very elegant during our stay. Other relatively minor inconveniences included: no facial tissues were provided; one small bar of soap served both the shower and the sink area; the WiFi kept cutting out; and the only switch to turn on the bathroom light was across the bathroom from the sleeping area; breakfast was delicious but the kitchen was extremely slow each morning of our stay. Other rooms may have had a less awkward layout, but Im not sure we would stay here again to try a different room. Too many amenities that shouldnt be considered extras (hand soap, place to hang clothes, reliable WiFi, facial tissue, anchored sink, easy-to-flush toilet) were missing. We would have saved a considerable amount of money and had many more amenities had we stayed at one of the local chain hotels in town.

Unexpectedly missing the markWe arrived just at the beginning time of self check-in for 2 nights stay in the Royal Safari suite. We were met by chance by the "innkeeper" -- given our keys and an "info" sheet, and dispatched into the mansion. We were neither shown around nor offered to look at other rooms in the mansion as an option (no others were booked while we were there). The good news is that the suite was spacious and very clean, and the bed was comfortable. The main inside common areas were clean and uncluttered. Unfortunately, TravelingGal233's review of the Royal Safari was true, except that the toilet worked correctly. Contrary to the Lyons website or room guide there was no closet with hanging rods in this suite, nor a DVD or streaming service with the TV (displayed in low resolution and had only a cheap universal remote that did not work completely, and could not mute the sound.) The WiFi connection was highly unreliable in this suite and probably cannot support streaming. There was no dressing table (nor vanity of any sort). There were no facial tissues provided. There was no wastebasket in the main room for the microwave/ refrigerator/ Keurig station. They only provided 2 "Folgers" k-cups at a time to the suite, and 2 bottles of "purified" water. There was no decaf and no tea. The large bathroom area was very poorly lit. The sink was still not attached to the wall and has a little sign as a warning. The shower is overly complex to operate, touchy to set the temperature, and now leaks a little. You need your glasses in the shower to see the control panel, if you are vision impaired at all. The complimentary breakfast (entree & coffee) was next door, but did not cover the server's tip! What serves as the downstairs guest entry and "convenience station" was a mess, with various bagged up room detritus from weeks ago on the table, which left no room to sit at. Posted photos show this as a nice guest sitting area. The kitchen, which was visible from several directions throughout our stay, was a complete, cluttered mess. Outside the seating areas were all dirty, messy, and unattractive. The two hammocks were dirty and mildewed, and one of them had a broken stretcher bar. The fountain was actually slimy while we were there. When I inquired about paying prior to our departure I was shocked to be informed that my credit card had been run for the room balance just after our arrival. I had cash with me to pay the balance. I have never had a hotel not inquire as to the desired method of payment for checkout. People do not always pay with what they use to reserve rooms. From a reading of all the historic reviews, it seems that Miss Pat needs to step back in to fix this situation. Based on our experience, I recommend NOT staying here, especially at weekend rates.

Must see mansions! The Twin mansions were just beautifully maintained. The rooms were elegantly appointed with high-end detail. The mansions have gorgeous woodwork, period pieces and are beautifully maintained. It is a nice mix of history and present comforts. We stayed in the Safari room. With the king bed, living space, large bathroom, and wraparound windows there was lots of space to make ourselves at home. We could also wander freely throughout the house and even see the other rooms that were not occupied. Dinner and breakfast next-door in the other mansion at Nates place was wonderfully prepared and the service was excellent and attentive.

Our favoriteOur second visit to this wonderful property this year. Nate and the rest of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was perfect, as are the remaining rooms in this elegant well maintained old mansion. Breakfast at Nates Place in the adjoining mansion was very good. Our evening meal the night before, steak, chicken alfredo and a super salad were prepared to perfection. We dined in the bar. The waitress/bartender prepared a super martini for my wife and a perfect Moscow Mule for me. Lyons Twin Mansions is definitely in our return visit list for early spring.

Warm and inviting! This is a great place to stay! I enjoyed the quiet and laid back atmosphere. It was clean and well kept. My room, the Royal Safari, was very nice with an awesome steam shower! My friends stayed in two other rooms and they were very nice as well.
