Cosy family hotel, nice staff, beautiful sea :) Perfect holidays!!!

We spent here our holidays in the middle of September 2016. We had tripple room (1x double bed and 1x single bed) with balcony. We were not squeezed at all while the single bed has been situated in separated room with the doors. The staff, unfortunately, didnt speak english well but were really very friendly, keen to help with any request. Of course the hotel has 3 stars so you cant expect miracles but they are really hard working and trying to make your stay as nice as possible. We had halfboard so breakfast where you could choose from buffet - some cold things such as cheese, ham, salami, vegetable and so on, then you had some eggs as well, sweets, muesli, juices, coffees, teas etc. what we think was regular type of breakfast of all the summer hotels. Dinner we were choosing always the day before and we could choose from 3 types of starters - it was always pasta but of different preparation; and 3 main courses - vegeterian, fish, meat. Very nice variety :) The hotel itself is very nice, small with cosy and familiar atmosphere, I think we didnt leave disapointed and it worth it for price we paid :)

    Grazie! Dank! Thank you!

Hotel Marinella has a couple of locations. One of them is Residenza Luzia up the hill about a 1000 yards from the main hotel facility. I was lucky enough to stay in that Residenza and you cannot go wrong with this location. It is new, the pool is great, the staff is always there for you and if you booked half board as I did, you'll get a great fresh meals every single day. There is always plenty of everything and the waiters will do next to anything in order to make you happy. One thing is for sure; if you want to get around by yourself, the hiring of a car is essential. If you do not want to leave the hotel, there is a regular and free connection for your trip to the beach a couple of kilometers away (and from the Residenza to the main hotel when you will have your lunch or diner). The beach is on a walking distance on your way down, but climbing up the hill after a day on that beach might not be what you need. So you willl be picked up by the hotel bus on regular occasions. The hotel offers enough possibilities to visit all sorts of special sites at very okay prices. If you are in for a German breakfast, you will not get that. The Italian beakfast mostly consists of eating sweet cake and sweet croissants with some coffee. Not my thing at all, but in this hotel there is a adaptation to a somewhat more extensive breakfast. Let us call that a breakfast light, but very nice on the other hand. But first of all, the staff is great. From the reception area to the cleaning ladies. Calabria nowadays is crowded. If you did read somewhere it is a desolate province of Italy, the travel guide is absolutely wrong. It is very crowded even out of season. I met Canadians, Germans, Russians, Argentinians.......well, people from all over the world. A thing to rememebre if you rent a car. The roads are extremely bad with the exception of the highway from the airport Lamezia Terme and the main road in the south heading to Riace. On the other way if you are in Capo Vaticano and you want to go to Tropea, just 10 miles away........expect a full 30 minutes to get there. You cannot drive faster than mostly 30 to 40 km per hour and those amazing potholes will slow you down every 100 meters. Those roads are fun if you like off-road vehicles, but count on the fact the potholes are as deep as the size your tires. The locals know where those potholes are and will, without signaling, go to the left or the right....just follow them, and you will be okay. Do also not forget you will find couches on the side of the road, chairs, huge amounts of plastic garbage and ladies solliciting. Back to the hotel. This has become an instant favorite of mine. My deepest respect for those working there, making your holiday better every single day. Book this hotel and you will not be disappointed.

    Average hotel

Completely average hotel, definitely overrated in comparison with hotels in neighbourhood. Clean. Garden view can mean anything. Good kitchen, poor breakfast. Limited availability of umbrellas and chairs on the beach. If it is a crowdy day or your last day, you have to find and pay umbrella& beds on some other beach even if it is already included in your price.

    Conveniente
