Peace and quiet redefined!Arriving up the hilly gravel track to find the way barred by a gate we just knew we'd picked the right place! Continue through the tall trees and up to the owners' house and you'll find Peter coming out to give you a warm welcome. After a few minutes to settle in to your chalet (there are just three, but well separated ) he comes down to run you through what's what and what's where and how it all works. It's green and clean and runs on 12 volts solar power, so leave the hairdryer at home. There's a converter to charge mobile devices and if you're with Telstra you might even get a signal! Forget it if you're with anybody else. Peace indeed, though we did get the news and a couple of my fave programs in clear quality on the tiny TV monitor. But that's not what Lumera is about. Views, tall trees, birds and wallabies, books, relaxing on the balcony high above the coast with a decent bottle - and chill out in the blissful silence. Then light the pot-belly when the night chill closes in. We had one very cold night - and the stove turned it into a very cosy dry sauna in less than 10 minutes. It poured rain all night and we slept with the balcony door wide open (there's a screen door), fresh air and night noises....... The chalet has all you need for comfort, a lovely bathroom with decent shower - and a bed you'll never want to leave. There's a fully-equipped kitchen for those who like to self-cater - we don't, as holidays are don't-lift-a-finger time - and fresh bread, eggs, juices, real coffee etc are all provided for brekkie or whenever. You also get a pot of proper food for the cute wallabies who wait at your door morning and evening to be hand-fed. The other world is just 5 minutes back down the hill and hang a left into the interesting village of St Mary's with its several excellent cafes with quality foods - and not one but two IGA stores for any groceries you need. The bigger one nearer to the Lumera turn-off even has a fully-fledged Deli counter with salads, snacks, meats and freshly roasted chickens to take away. You're left to your own devices unless you need help - and that's just up the hill and willingly given. Staying here was the highlight of our East Coast trip - the only drawback was that we only allocated two nights. Considering how central it is to the area between Coles Bay and The Gardens we would have stayed the whole week had we known. Cant wait to go back. Highly recommended.

Peace, Tranquility & WildlifeOur visit with 8 Hours Day long weekend public holiday. St Marys is a quiet village. One of the owners thoroughly briefed us on local facilities & gave me a lesson in starting the pot belly stove. The secret is to use lots of news paper to create sufficient heat to dry the fire wood. There was breakfast cereals & coffee & tea supplied which we supplemented from the local IGA super market. The only other dining facility is the St Marys Pub. Our chalet was warm & comfortable as was its bed. We would definitely return. Room service is provided by the guest.

Secluded beautyThis is an incredible little place, off the beaten track with the most amazing views down to the ocean. If you want somewhere to stay for a peaceful time surrounded by incredible wildlife in a cosy little cabin then I highly recommend this place.

Blossom the hill at the end of a dusty roadIt was the hottest day ever in Sydney. A violent storm followed me down the Esk highway with the plus 30 winds relieved by a cold shower and cold beer. The greeting was strong from the crowd of 5 wallabies who walked up to me but wont carry bags!!! Bliss. Simple design. A safe cluster of 3 chalets allowed us to spread out. Close to st Marys and the coast. No better site I feel. The views to St. Helens are stunning.

Perfect place to relax and recoverWe stayed for 5 nights and it was heaven. Close enough to St Marys to get any essentials, but far enough away to have the perfect retreat. The chalets are spotlessly clean and so comfortable. The view is exceptional, and was appreciated after I had to spend a day in bed after coming down with a heavy cold. Note, this is an self contained eco chalet, so although you can charge your phone or tablet, there is only one power point. This is a perfect place to get away from it all.
