Lovely quiet country house hotel with fantastic foodStayed in this great hotel several times but unfortunately the hotel will close it's doors for the last time today. It had mixed reviews but it was full of character - yes the plumbing was old like the house but everything worked and the 7 course taster menu with wine was brilliant quality and value. Really sad it's gone and just want to thank the owners and the staff for such great times and make sure the last review is a good one

Closed due to unforeseen circumstances. We had a booking made Weeks ago , cancelled with one weeks notice and no explanation given. It was supposed to be for two nights for our 48 th wedding anniversary and included a taster menu meal . The manager even asked my husband could we come a week earlier rather than our arranged date. So disappointed we visited today to have a look at what had happened. We booked into another local hotel and visited the Lovelady. I am so pleased we didnt have to stay there, The whole building is in a dilapidated state, unkempt, neglected and all closed up. Note on door as stated above . Beautiful location. Quiet , serene and peaceful. Idyllic for couples and a retreat for contemplation. The drive down is pitted with pot holes, . However something has not worked , such a shame.

FiascoBooked our visit at the beginning of September via Secret Escapes, and received confirmation. Turned up on Sunday 5pm as planned, to discover the hotel shut up, drive blocked. We have phoned and emailed but had no response; it appears the owners have disappeared without trace, trying to escape their personal liability. Appreciate they must have gone bust, but an email to all booked guests to warn them not to travel would have been helpful. We have lost £180, bitterly disappointed.

Little BreakAt the beginning of November Seven of us (Including a 2+ month old) stayed for 4 nights in the Clifton Cottage. This was the second time we had stayed here, although it had changed because of the Hotel next to it closing, we found that everything run smoothly. We ere given instructions by email regarding the key and the key safe. The cottage was always warm which was a blessing with the cold days we had. The cottage was clean. If there was a downfall the WiFi wasn't that good and there was only 6 cups, plates etc. I think that you need at the very least 8 of everything if not 10 in my opinion.

Run downWe stayed here as a couple to enjoy a well earned night away from our family. It was not great. The hotel was run down and dingy. The location has little to offer, and it was hard to find the hotel. The small car park meant we had to park next to awful snelling bins. We didn't dare eat our evening meal there, which was lucky, as the breakfast was awful. Also, the staff looked fed up and miserable. The heating didn't work as we were told it was on a timer, so we were freezing cold at night. We didn't miss it when we left. The room wasnt a bad size but the mattress was very hard. We were happy to only have booked one night. Sorry, but we wouldn't recommend.
