Could have been a nice hotel...Stayed at Longcheng International Hotel for 2 nts. in mid-July, 2007. The hotel ran out of non-smoking rooms, but promised to conduct their "non-smoking treatment" to the room for us. The standard was acceptable, but it was hard to expect such a new hotel (opened in Mar 2006) had such dirty carpet in the room. The carpet had a lot of stains, and there was a filthy-looking rug in front of the bathroom. If the room had a nice carpet and a cleaner-looking sofa, it could indeed have been quite a nice room. Location was good, within walking distance to one of the coach station (from Datong/ Beijing). Our room rate included one breakfast. The front receptionist only gave us one breakfast coupon for the first morning, and asked us to go to the reception again on the second morning for the second coupon. Breakfast/ person costs CNY58. Quality was just average. We had dinner in their Tanjia Restaurant for both evenings as quality was very good.

There must be better hotels for a lot less money in TaiyuanWe stayed overnight in the Longcheng International Hotel on our way between Mount Wutai and Pingyao. It's location is handy, as it's close to the railway station. That's about all it has going for it. To describe the hotel as five star is a travesty. The carpets were filthy and our room stifling hot. The air conditioning did not work at all (the cable had been cut) and we had to resort to leaving the window open all night, despite the noise below. The hotel is in desperate need of a renovation and basic maintenance. I would never stay there again, nor recommend it to anyone.

Hotel Needs A RenovationStayed at this hotel on a tour. Although it claimed to be 5-star, it should be ranked only between 3- to 4-star. Hotel was a bit old and many areas need to be renovated. There was free internet in the room. Services were efficient and IT guy came to the room personally to fix the internet connection even at late hours. TV has CNN channel. Breakfast selection was acceptable but western food/bread was limited. There were more Chinese hot dishes available for selection.

never in this hotelAlthough the hotel is officially ranked as 5-star hotel, it does not desire even 1 star. Reception service - worse I saw. Rooms - freezing cold. Breakfast area - rest of food served in huge cantine which has no common with 5-star hotel restaurant. Romms furniture quite old, washroom need definately a capital overhaul (leaking water in shower, broken bathtube), dim light. Definately never again!!!!!!

This is Taiyuan, baby!Frankly speaking, I think this is the best hotel of Taiyuan. Our company normally cares a lot about coddled laowais (foreigners), I do believe they booked us one of the best places in Taiyuan. And it is true: in the city where people open their mouths and point fingers when they see foreigners, this hotel is a rare place where one can speak some English. Even if a conversation about check-out takes 30 minutes. This is a very traditional hotel: full of artificial luxury, stone-hard beds and deadly cold rooms. However, some of us even found a great swimming pool inside. The breakfast is not bad: you can find turtle soup and nice skewers. Western food? Are you kidding? Somebody here said that this hotel needs renovation. They put it mildly. If you know how some Chinese like to smoke you can imagine how smoky this hotel is. Even in the elevators. But from another side, if you are a smoker it is your paradise! If you go to a business trip, most probably you will not have too many choices. I have to say that location is very good. It is basically kind of city center. If you are experienced China-traveler no problem for you. Im sure you have seen a lot of places. If you want to get fun, think first, why do you go to Taiyuan? What do you know about Taiyuan?
