Perfect rural getawayIf you are looking for a rural getaway that can provide a quiet, peaceful place stay within easy reach of Dunedin and the local Mosgiel area, then this is the spot. The simple, but well appointed rooms were not only very comfortable, but ideally set up so you had uninterrupted views of the local hills. The owners and staff were obliging and very flexible for the needs of our large party. I would happily stay there again and recommend them to any small or large group.

AwesomeWe chose this place due to its proximity to Dunedin Airport and were pleasantly surprised. Our room was very spacious and clean, and the kitchenette was well-equipped. Owners were super hospitable and helpful. And special thanks for thinking green and being eco in your business!

A great place for the kids to stretch from the carAlthough out of town a little this is a good motel to go if you have kids. lots so space for them to run after traveling. The units are spacious and well appointed. lounge suites double as pull out beds so are not that comfortable. The pain we found was the need to keep windows closed on hot nights due to visits from cats. At least two different cats landed on our bed over our stay. Given the killing cats do at night if not locked in, these two were obviously out hunting and used to coming into the rooms. Sorry Im not a cat lover due to the damage they do.

Great rural viewsUnit modern, very well-equipped and spotlessly clean. Every item in working order. Beautiful rural views and general feeling of spaciousness. Owners very friendly and helpful. Really excellent and generous breakfast On the downside, property very hard to locate after dark, being out in the country, which means one has to travel into Mosgiel for evening meal. Also, parking is at a distance from the unit over gravel, which suitcase wheels do not like! Would we stay again? Probably, but not in a garden studio unit, as access very difficult for older persons with limited mobility.

Friendly and helpful owners, well maintained, but really coldWe stayed for about 5 days around Christmas. The owners were very friendly and helpful, accommodating, they made us feel welcome. Our stay was fine, but there's room for improvement. The one bedroom units have a bed and a two seater sofa, a small TV, plus a basic kitchen and a bathroom - they're smaller than they appear in the photos. They're fine if you just want somewhere to sleep and eat a basic meal, but there's not a lot of space. There's no drawers to put clothes into and the suitcase stand doesn't really work for modern suitcases that have sections for storage top and bottom. The family cottages are better equipped with a lot more space, a couple of sofas, a full oven, and still a fairly small wall mounted TV with some Sky TV channels. Beds in both rooms are good, no problems. The main thing to improve is the heating, which we discovered as there was a cold snap while we were there. The smaller units have a wall panel heater near the beds, which are moderately effective if it's not too cold, but you can't really leave them on if you have young kids as they could burn themselves. The fan heaters are on a timer, you have to push a button every 45 minutes to turn them back on, and the thermostat is set so low the rooms never really get to a comfortable temperature. The larger cottage had a heat pump mounted way up high, and you don't get a remote. It was preset to a low fan and temperature, making it fairly ineffective, but I asked for and got the remote. The heat pump is activated by a button which you press to get 45 minutes of heating, which is annoying and means you can't keep it on low overnight to keep it a reasonable temperature like we do at home. It took about 2 hours to get up to a comfortable temperature in the mornings, and again when we returned in the afternoon. There are oil heaters for each bedroom, though we needed to ask for an extension cord to put one out of the doorway, and in the other room there wasn't much space to put it down the side of the bed but we managed. The larger rooms have a shelf in the wardrobe for clothes, which is better for the units, but it's up so high it's difficult to actually use. Still, better than the units. The bathrooms are wet rooms, with a shower curtain. The tiny extractor fan took about three hours to dry the room out, which made the room often wet / damp. Otherwise the bathrooms are fine, modern, well maintained. We had rabbit shooters come while we were there as there are rabbits everywhere, which we were warned about. When the rabbit shooters came past we saw what looked like a 13 year old boy standing on the back of a ute holding a rifle. We weren't impressed at the casual display of firearms, or that a fairly young looking person was in charge of a firearm in the hotel grounds. Couple of other things they could do are cut the grass out front by the road so you can see the sign and know when to turn, and clean the bird poo off the deck furniture so it's more usable. All in all it was a fairly good stay, but they really need to sort the heating out, especially at almost $200 per night. It's a good place to stay if you're there visiting family or doing things in the area.
